As is common at this time of year, I have been reflecting on the year that has been and considering my year ahead. I came across the following journal entry I wrote a couple of months ago while on a surf trip in an Indonesian jungle.

"Enjoying my connection with people here, having interesting conversations - it certainly attracts a varied and colourful representation of humans.

Some crazy society escapees that feel more at home in the remote jungle, big wave chasers in their 50s and 60s still charging, exhibiting an amazing relationship with the ocean and adventure and then there are those tapping into the juice of a wild jungle experience to give life to an otherwise mundane, risk averse life.

For these last group of people, it is where we come to get in touch with the Wild man, to breathe life into our basic, instinctual being, light the fire to carry us through another year of obligations and expectations which become less relevant the deeper we go into the Wildman.

How big a house do you need, or car, new clothes, the latest toys, recognition from others, when we get in touch with the wildman, this is where and when we are brave enough to question the meaningfulness of all of it and dare to let it go as we fly down the line of another beautiful, powerful wave, vulnerable and free."

This page and my work is about getting men in touch with their own inner strength through connection to nature and themselves.

I wish you a potent, powerful, purposeful and passionate year ahead and may you connect with the spirit of the wildman in you.

"You must go in quest of yourself, and you will find yourself again only in the simple and forgotten things. Why not go into the forest for a time, literally ? Sometimes a tree tells you more than can be read in books… "

More and more, I see the things in life that create a richer more meaningful experience and the distractions that take us away from these. One of the richest experiences is time spent in nature, particularly working with nature to improve it and to generate food. Here is a great film about regenerating land and the benefits that come with it. I recommend having a look.

Ive been out of the water lately, after an ear operation, and it has been difficult for me to watch the ocean and not be able to go in for a surf or swim. I realise how much joy and connection I get out of my immersion in the ocean and how beneficial it is on so many levels. Physical, mental, emotional and even spiritual.

What's your nature connection that works for you and how often do you engage with this experience?

Here is an article I came across recently, it supports a lot of what I believe about the power of nature and it’s ability to heal and energise us. Enjoy Is it time for your doctor to give you a ‘nature prescription’?  People who spend more time in nature, be it parks, gardens, mountai

I had an interesting read recently, something that makes sense but not something we all embrace, and that is spending time in nature is benefical for our health and well being on many levels. So what are we making more important than our health and well being is a question I ask myself???

Here is the article

I've been involved in lots of work that supports men to open up and share on a personal level and one thing that is clear is that men repsond well to a structure, having protocols in place which help to make men feel safer to share, this really works.
This has been evident in a structure I have put in place with my sons but would work with any small group of men and it has been incredible what has come out of it. The growth and support has really blown me away and I am keen to share this with others to help build better, more meaningful relationships with family and friends.

I read this quote posted recently from a fantastic book The War of Art by Steven Pressfield which I read a few years ago

"Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within. Between the two stands resistance"

It resonates very strongly with me at the moment as I am noticing the resistance I am feeling as I embark on this path of supporting men's health and well-being.

I am recognising it for what it is, questioning my resistance at each step along the way and gaining valuable insights of what is behind this resistance, all of this is part of the path to the unlived life and one I am open to embrace and I admit it is not the easy path but it is where the Gold will be found.
