Meet the Team: Kim

Today we are excited to introduce Kim, one of our Support Workers here at NESS! Her answers speak for themselves.

What do you enjoy about your role?
“I love helping clients live their best life. Every client defines that differently so every day is different.
There is a special moment when communication starts happening with a new client and it feels wonderful. Sharing a laugh is the next best feeling. Almost everybody can laugh, even without words.
I look for places to connect, whether it is how our brains work, how we feel in nature, or how we relate to our pets.
Beyond the important work of personal care, community access, and appointments, I am part of my client's community in Armidale. It is an honour to fill that role.”

What are you passionate about?
“I am passionate about consent. As an ex lawyer and a lifelong member of the fairer s*x I have represented people whose consent was violated and had my own violated. Placing consent at the centre of my role helps me give my all to the supports my client has requested and agreed to. Prior to the NDIS the consent of people with disabilities was often overlooked.”

Fun fact or hobby?
“Before support work I was a lawyer, then a professional housewife to a climate scientist. I travelled to climate science conferences and volunteered as a dementia pianist in Sydney and Cairns.
Since 2016 I have built a repertoire of hundreds of vintage songs from the 1800s to the 1900s. I love learning the trivia behind the music and seeing how songs unlock emotions for people living with dementia. Music helps us feel more deeply and I will take my Yamaha keyboard anywhere it can do some good.”
