Is your idea of a Super Saturday learning more about diabetes? Probably not 😅🤓 But for us podiatrists, it was a great opportunity to stay sharp and better support our diabetic patients.

So great to have the Diabetes Alliance Program bring their workshop to the region - love seeing more local PD!

We also had the chance to try out the continuous glucose monitor - one sensor lasts 15 days and tracks glucose levels in the interstitial fluid 📉🍽️ Super insightful to see how blood sugar responds to meals in real-time.

Last night our team attended Health Professionals Event 👟 It was a great opportunity to hear the latest footwear updates and learn more about their fit process. I even jumped on the MyFit 3D myself - and was pretty happy to find the shoes they recommended were the ones I already wear!

✨The RM Williams Comfort Craftsman - a beautifully crafted Aussie icon and a crowd favourite, especially here in Armidale. While they’re known for their style and quality, they don’t suit every foot especially when it comes to all-day wear 👞

To recover from an Achilles injury, your tendon needs the right amount of loading—enough to stimulate healing and build strength, but not so much it causes more damage.

One study I often use in clinic (by Baxter et al.) groups exercises into 4 tiers of loading. This helps us match your rehab exercises to your goals—that might be walking or getting back to running.

🚶‍➡️ Here’s something you might find surprising:
If your rehab stops at single-leg calf raises, you’re likely underloading. Walking loads the Achilles at ~3x body weight, and running can exceed 12x body weight.

We’d like to welcome our new podiatrist, Jacqueline Finn, to the Armidale Podiatry team.

Jacqueline graduated from the University of Newcastle in 2020. She has worked as a podiatrist in Devonport TAS and Orange NSW (Jacqueline isn’t worried about an Armidale Winter! ❄️)

Her favourite thing about being a podiatrist is the variety of cases - musculoskeletal, dermatological, vascular, neurological, and developmental.

The smallest member of the family has started walking 🤩 She loved getting fitted for shoes!

The bones 🦴 in little feet are still forming when they start walking and their feet appear flat because fatty padding takes the place of the arch.

Shoes are needed for protection but it is important that they don’t restrict the foot and allow free movement for healthy development.

At this stage, little feet grow about half a size every 2 months, so it’s important to check shoe fit regularly 😊
