How Can I Show Allyship to an Autistic Person?
4️⃣ Include with kindness

True allyship is grounded in kindness. It means inviting autistic people to participate, allowing time and space for communication, and celebrating individuality.
Inclusion should be thoughtful, respectful and encouraging — not forced.
Kindness creates belonging. Belonging creates connection.

Tag someone you know who does this well – let’s celebrate kindness in our community!

How Can I Show Allyship to an Autistic Person?
3️⃣ Advocate for inclusive environments

Understanding often leads to advocacy. Inclusive, sensory considerate environments and communication access help autistic people participate more fully in everyday life.
Allyship means noticing barriers - and speaking up for practical adjustments that support participation.

How Can I Show Allyship to an Autistic Person?
2️⃣ Respect different ways of communicating

Communication doesn’t always involve speech. Some autistic people communicate using AAC, writing, gestures or other methods.
Respecting and supporting these ways of communicating - including allowing extra time - is a powerful act of allyship.

Share this post to remind your community that communication is a human right - and every communication method is valid!

How Can I Show Allyship to an Autistic Person?
1️⃣ Take time to understand the person

Every autistic person is different. Allyship begins by learning about someone’s communication preferences, sensory needs, routines, interests and strengths.
When we take the time to understand the individual - rather than making assumptions - we build more respectful, supportive relationships.
Small acts of understanding can make a big difference.
