Today we remember and honour a deeply valued member of the Hear and Say community, Dr John Quayle. A highly respected ENT specialist, John was known not only for his expertise, but for his warmth, generosity, and genuine commitment to improving the lives of children and families.

An early champion of cochlear implants, John played a pivotal role in helping Hear and Say begin its cochlear implant program, opening the door to life-changing outcomes for many children. He served in many capacities, including as a Director on the Hear and Say Board.

Through his advocacy, insight, and encouragement, he helped shape the care and support we provide today and expand what is possible for many children. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him will remember his wisdom, kindness, and quiet dedication to our mission.

His contribution over many years was both significant and deeply valued.

We will miss him greatly, and our heartfelt thoughts are with his family at this difficult time 💙

🌍👂 World Hearing Day — 3 March 2026
From Communities to Classrooms: Hearing Care for All Children 🎧📘

Today we join the World Health Organization in shining a spotlight on hearing care for children around the world. Millions of children aged 5–19 years live with hearing loss, and most cases are preventable or treatable when identified early. Together, we can ensure every child has the chance to hear, learn and thrive.

🧠 Why it matters:
✨ Over 60 % of childhood hearing loss can be prevented with simple public health actions.
🎒 Integrating ear and hearing care into school and community health means early detection, early support and brighter futures.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents, teachers and health workers all play a role in helping children hear, learn and succeed.

Let’s act now so no child is left behind because of an ear or hearing problem. 💙👂

Stories like this are why we do what we do 💙

Jaradeenah first became a Hear and Say client as a child in Papua New Guinea through our worldwide program. She received a cochlear implant and, with the support of our team, learned to hear sounds and develop her speech. Today, she is in her late 20s, living in Australia and working in aged care as a personal carer

She shared this with us:

“Without my cochlear implant, my world would have been much quieter and more isolating. I wouldn’t have been able to develop clear speech, participate fully in school, or work in the way I do now. It gave me access to sound — but more importantly, it gave me connection, independence, and the ability to build the life I have today. I also dream of becoming a pediatric nurse.”

Messages like this are a powerful reminder of why early intervention and ongoing support matter so much 🦋
Every child deserves the chance to hear, speak and live a life full of connection.

Thank you to our incredible community for helping make stories like Jaradeenah’s possible.

We love seeing the impact of hearing care at every stage of life 💙👂

Peter Dornan, husband of our founder Dimity Dornan, has recently been fitted with new Phonak hearing aids by Anna through our Adult Hearing Program at Hear and Say 🦋

Peter shared, “I can hear perfectly every conversation, music, TV and with the microphone attached to Dimity (pictured), I can hear her anywhere in the house!”
Great hearing isn’t just about sound. It’s about connection, confidence and staying engaged with the people you love.

If you or someone you know could benefit from adult hearing support, our team is here to help. Please call 07 3850 2111 to book your hearing test today

Claudia’s story is one we’re incredibly proud to share 🦋
After graduating with a Bachelor of Property Economics with Distinction, Claudia is now thriving in commercial property, recently celebrating a promotion, all while having worked full-time at Trident Property Advisory, throughout her degree!!

But her journey didn’t start there.

Growing up with hearing loss, Claudia has been part of the Hear and Say community since she was a newborn. As her life has evolved, so has her understanding of the impact hearing has had on her world.

“Being able to hear connects us to everything,” Claudia says. Today, her career relies heavily on communication, relationship-building and networking. She truly believes she wouldn’t be where she is without the support of Hear and Say (and her parents doing a lot of the heavy lifting too!). From career opportunities to friendships and life beyond work, hearing has shaped the path available to her.
Stories like Claudia’s remind us why early support, ongoing care and belief in potential matter so much.

We’re so proud of everything Claudia’s achieved and we can’t wait to see what’s next. 💙

🌟 Peppa Pig just gave kids’ TV a powerful moment and it features a real-life role model many families will recognise! 👧🐷👂

In the latest episodes, Peppa’s little brother George is revealed to have moderate hearing loss and is fitted with a hearing aid after a routine check-up. This storyline was created with expert guidance from the National Deaf Children’s Society to make sure it reflects real experiences in a gentle, age-appropriate way.

A special highlight is that the audiologist in George’s story is voiced by . Better known to many as Fury from Gladiators. Jodie is profoundly deaf and uses a cochlear implant herself, bringing authenticity and heart to the role.

This moment on screen matters. It shows children with hearing differences that they belong, and it helps families start conversations about hearing checks, early support and celebrating every child’s unique journey 🦋

Bravo to Peppa Pig's entire team and we can't wait to see the episode!

Gladiator Jodie Ounsley will enter the world of Peppa Pig as she takes on the role of an audiologist in an upcoming storyline about one of the characters' partial hearing loss. The animated show tells the story of Peppa, who lives with Daddy Pig, Mummy Pig, her little brother George, and her baby si...
