I’ve been learning a lot about habits and the human brain, particularly the nuances of a woman’s brain.

Want to quit sugar? Stop drinking? Exercise? Have you ever wondered why your best intentions haven’t really taken flight? Here’s some interesting info in this part 1 of 3 regarding why new habits are hard to make.

Did you know that self-control and will power are like a muscle 💪. The more you exercise these throughout the day, the more fatigued they become (cue the late afternoon chocolate and biscuit rage 🙋‍♀️).

What depletes our ability to maintain self-control and will power? When we’ve spent all day making decisions 🧠, when we’re hungry 🐛, when we’re trying hard to emotionally regulate 🤯, managing daily stress💥 and sleeplessness 😴. Quite simply, by the end of the day we’ve depleted our self-control and will power muscle!

Don’t beat yourself up if you let yourself down in the afternoons. The first step is understanding why it’s hard and showing yourself some compassion 💕

My Little Soul Studio account has been in loving hibernation for the last seven months 🐛.

I will return soon to offering people a place to reconnect with themselves and heal; I have plans and a dream. Until that time I will go back to using this account as a platform to share the things I love - health and wellbeing. I’ve missed sharing insights and learning.

This is a spontaneous shout out to all of the women who are juggling a job and family responsibilities, trying to cook nutritious meals, keep on top of the house (even if a ‘quick vac’ is all you can manage), squeeze in some exercise, thinking about meditating but never quite get there, bake for their kids lunch box, and manage one page of their book before they fall asleep. I see you and you are super woman in my eyes 🩷

Well, I didn’t exactly write a love note, but I did show myself compassion and love yesterday, which is just as nice as receiving a love note 💖. Yesterday I:
🌼 had a Spinal Flow treatment to reset my nervous system
🦋 had a delicious lunch on my own and people watched (one of my favourite past times)
🌱 listened to a mindset and self-growth audio book on the way to Stanthorpe and back (Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins)
😎 grocery shopped, at a leisurely pace (this took much self control) without pressure or kids
I came home feeling like I had done something for both my mind and body yesterday 🌈☀️
When is the last time you did something like this for yourself? Self-compassion and self-care are so important 💙. I advocate this for my friends and family and clients all the time but rarely do this for myself. I’m going to write it in to my calendar once per month. Next month? A bush-walk and coffee. Who’s in? 🙋‍♀️

We all love a good hack and this is one to add to your nervous system regulation toolkit 🔨

Left Nostril Breathing is a fast way to access the parasympathetic nervous system. In other words bring calm, peace and stability by signalling to the nervous system it is safe to come out of ‘fight flight’.

🌼Use 1 finger to block off the right nostril
🌺Breathe in deeply through the left nostril
***HOLD FOR ONE SECOND***
🌻Switch - Breathe out through the right by blocking the left

Keep this rhythm, in through the left, out through the right, for two minutes

Mars (anger) will clash with Pluto (fury) heightening our frustrations and annoyances. Keep your tongue firmly in your head - this too shall pass. ‘Least said, soonest mended’ as the saying goes.

Finishing the year doing one of the things I love - Spinal Flow (even in my paddock clothes!)
