The annual Christmas Service of Remembrance was conducted in the Balaklava Funeral Chapel today.
The service was to remember our loved ones in the Christmas season.
Funeral Director Louise Michael led the service, with assistance from Rev Flo Walters, and also Taylor & Forgie colleague Casey Clarke.
The family and friends present at the service hung a card on the tree, with a special message to their loved ones written inside.
Louise said the service is always very emotional as grieving family members and friends remember their loved ones at a time of year which is traditionally deemed a 'happy and joyous' time.
"Everyone is at a different stage of their grieving process, so we hope this service, with the messages given, provides some comfort and peace for everyone," Louise said.
Attendees were then invited to stay for a cuppa and time of fellowship.
"This service is conducted each year and everyone is welcome to come along, regardless of whether we looked after your family's funeral arrangements or not," Louise said.
And if you would like to meet with an independent grief counsellor, please don't hesitate to contact our office on 8862 2101 to make a free appointment.

Recently we farewelled a lovely lady who loved her garden and her flowers.

With bunches of flowers, garden petals and roses, it was beautiful way to acknowledge her life and family.

The annual Christmas Remembrance Service is coming up on SUNDAY, December 7 at 1.30pm in the Balaklava Funeral Chapel. Everyone is invited to attend to remember those family and friends we have lost, whether it be a recent loss, or many years ago.
And it doesn't matter whether Taylor & Forgie Funeral Directors looked after your family at that time or not - everyone is welcome to join us for this special service.
There will be a time in the service where you can hang a card (with a special message written to your loved one) on our remembrance tree (pictured is the tree from last year's service), but if you forget to bring one or don't have one, it's ok - we will have some at the chapel which you can write in on the day.
There will be light refreshments in the chapel after the service.
For catering purposes or for any queries, please contact Louise on 8862 2101 by December 5.

Our Story

Durdin Funerals was started back in the 1920s in Hamley Bridge by local builder W.H. Durdin. In the 1960’s Durdins acquired Ahrns Bros Funerals in Balaklava, expanding to care for families in both Hamley Bridge and Balaklava. His grandson Warren took over the business in the early 1980’s.

Durdin & Forgie Family Funeral Directors was established in 2003 when Durdin Funerals became part of Taylor & Forgie in Gawler. This marked a period of investment in facilities at the Scotland street premises with a new 110-seat chapel being constructed and improved community services.

While many things have changed since the 1920’s, the human, caring, attentive service side of the business remains the same, and will always be of paramount importance. Arranging and carrying out a funeral that best helps families cope and assists with the adjustments that must be made, is of vital importance. Very high standards are expected of all staff resulting in a reputation for funeral excellence. Durdin & Forgie Family Funeral Directors prides itself on being a caring and compassionate, family-owned and operated business.

Our male and female professional funeral directors are available at all hours, 7 days. They will give you a full range of options and attend to all requirements personally:
