Playstream’s owner Kathleen Conti truly believes that it takes a village. She has been amazed by the wonderful Occupational Therapists not only at Playstream but the many others supporting the local community.

Our clinic specialises in supporting children. We believe occupational therapy should support kids to spend more time participating in their communities and connecting with others.

By working with those who are involved in a child’s therapy, we can help build stronger connections. It’s so valuable to see kids be able to interact with peers more confidently, communicate their needs, and learn emotional and sensory regulation strategies that allow children to connect with others.

Just a quick reminder that we have our next North Brisbane Allied Health Networking event is tomorrow, Thursday from noon until 1.30pm at the Playstream offices.

We are very excited to be seeing everyone tomorrow!

We have a lot of people who have registered as "interested" and we would love to get the nametags prepared before the meeting to make check-in easier on the day, so please let us know if you are intending on coming so we can have everything ready.

Playstream offers feeding support through a multidisciplinary approach that combines Speech Pathology and Occupational Therapy. The goals of feeding therapy are to:
• Identify oral, sensory, motor, cognitive and emotional feeding milestones.
• Develop your child’s feeding skills and behaviours around new and different foods.
• Improve your child’s nutrition intake to support their growth and development.
• Help families and children achieve their feeding goals.
Children can experience issues with their mouth and palate, which makes chewing and swallowing uncomfortable. Our occupational therapist Yannick worked with this client at his school. In the session, they used:
• Myomunchee and chewy tubes – He showed Yannick how to use them.
• Dominoes - Because everybody loves playing dominoes!
• Apple – He cut the apply into slices to share with his family.
• A favourite toy.

Here at Playstream we often use dry rice for sensory play. Colouring it isn't neccesary, but it sure does make it more fun! Here's a recipe one of our occupational therapists Lauren put together 😁

The full recipe, the same as the image:

🌈How to dye rice for sensory play🍚

You'll need
1 cup of rice
½ teaspoon white vinegar
Food colouring (liquid or gel)
Zip lock bags / Sealable container
Baking paper & Baking tray

What to do
- Pour the cup of rice into a zip lock bag
- Add in the desired amount of food colouring
- Drizzle the vinegar over the rice
Seal the bag or container
Shake to distribute the colour
Place on a baking paper lined tray
Heat in a low temperature oven until dry
Store in a sealed container

Through play, a child develops an understanding of who they are and how they fit into the world around them.
