October is AAC Awareness Month and to celebrate we held an incredibly fun and insightful Silent Morning Tea. ☕

With 1 in 7 Australians likely to experience communication access needs, our 'bring a plate' morning tea was a chance for Scope employees to show what’s possible beyond words. 💬

The team at Scope's Communication and Inclusion Resource Centre (CIRC) shared Communication Access resources with guests. As a bit of fun, a game of celebrity heads was organised, with players challenged to seek clues using CIRC's Communication Access resources. 🤩

“I don’t think a night goes by where I don’t think of Deb.” ❤️

As we conclude National Carers Week, Scope honours the carers, family members and supporters of people with disability.

Sandra talks about her experience of being the mother of, and a carer to Debbie, a client who has lived in one of our SIL homes for 26 years.

One piece of advice she has for other carers: “Be involved in the house. Talk to the support workers and the house co-ordinator.” 🗣️

Carers, families and supporters play a vital role in the lives of so many of our clients, working alongside our teams to support clients to live independently and belong and thrive.

This is why Scope introduced our Family and Supporters Advisory Panel (FSAP), whose purpose is to help us understand issues, trends, and feedback identified by families; and advise Scope on specific issues, improvement plans, and decisions.
