โญ Pause. Inhale. Exhale โญ

Sometimes the best thing you can do is simply take a moment to breathe.

Try the 3-second triangle:
- breathe in for 3,
- hold for 3, and
- exhale for 3.

Repeat until you feel calmer and more grounded.

A simple tool you can use anytime, anywhere.

Anxiety can show up in different ways ... in our thoughts, our bodies, our feelings, and even our behaviours.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It might sound like constant โ€œwhat ifsโ€ or self-doubt.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It might feel like a racing heart, nausea, or trouble sleeping.

๐Ÿ‘‰ It might look like avoiding situations, feeling restless, or over-checking things.

Recognising these signs is the first step toward managing anxiety and finding strategies that help. You donโ€™t have to go through it alone. Reaching out for support can make a big difference.

Big feelings can be overwhelming for kids and parents.

Emotion coaching helps children understand, express, and manage their emotions, while helping parents stay calm and connected.

When we notice, name, and validate emotions, children feel safe and supported, making it easier for them to problem-solve and thrive.

You know your child best. But when something feels off โ€” when they're falling behind, avoiding schoolwork, or struggling with big emotions โ€” itโ€™s okay to wonder if thereโ€™s something more going on.

A psychological assessment can help you understand how your child is thinking, learning, and coping โ€” and guide the right support at home and school. It's not about labels. It's about clarity.

Our wonderful Educational & Developmental Psychologist Tayla from our clinic in Melton is developing a Post-Diagnosis Support Program to empower individuals and families to understand, embrace, and navigate life following a neurodevelopmental diagnosis such as autism or ADHD.

The program will begin with five recorded webinars and downloadable resources designed to provide practical, evidence-informed information after diagnosis, strengthen wellbeing and identity, and support families, adults, and clinicians.

To make sure the content truly reflects the needs and priorities of our community, she is seeking input from:

Families and adults who have recently or previously received a diagnosis, or are currently going through the assessment process

Clinicians and allied-health professionals who support clients post-diagnosis
Each short survey takes only 3โ€“5 minutes to complete, and responses are open until Friday 14 November.

Families & Adults: http://bit.ly/4qJkOML

Clinicians & Professionals: https://bit.ly/4nE0F88

Your feedback will directly shape this resource to ensure itโ€™s meaningful, inclusive, and practically useful across both personal and professional contexts.

Thank you for helping guide this next step in post-diagnostic support

October is ADHD Awareness Month

The 2025 theme, โ€œThe Many Faces of ADHDโ€, reminds us that ADHD looks different for everyone, and so does the support they need.

At our clinic, we can provide assessments for ADHD and ongoing support for people diagnosed with ADHD, helping children, adolescents, and adults thrive at school, at work, and in the community.

Raising awareness opens doors to understanding, inclusion, and celebrating strengths, not just challenges.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Meet the Team โ€“ Introducing Psychologist Rachel Tallent!

Rachel is one of our clinical psychologist here at Ballarat Psychology Clinic, Get to know her below:

๐Ÿฅ‡ Fun Fact That Might Surprise you:
Rachel isnโ€™t just passionate about helping people โ€” sheโ€™s also an Olympian! ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ In 2016, Rachel represented Australia at the Rio Olympic Games in the 20km walk. Even more special? She shared the experience with her older brother Jared, who competed in the 50km walk and brought home a silver medal! Their parents proudly followed them around the globe wearing T-shirts that read โ€œHere for the Tallentโ€ โ€” and we canโ€™t get over how wholesome that is. ๐Ÿ’›

โšก What Inspired Rachel to Become a Psychologist?
Through her years in elite sport, Rachel saw firsthand how mental health directly impacts performance, confidence, and overall wellbeing. Whether it was the pressure to perform, the stress of competition, or the inner struggles that come with big goals, she realised the mind can be our greatest asset โ€” or our biggest barrier. That experience led her to psychology, where she now helps others overcome mental hurdles and thrive in whatever arena theyโ€™re in.

๐Ÿง  Rachelโ€™s Approach to Therapy:
One of Rachelโ€™s go-to approaches is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). What she loves about ACT is how it empowers people to acknowledge and accept the difficult thoughts and feelings that are part of life โ€” rather than fighting against them. Instead of avoiding discomfort, ACT encourages us to lean into what really matters make room for challenges, and take action that aligns with our values. Itโ€™s a powerful framework for creating a life with purpose, even when things feel messy or hard.

โœจ Rachel brings a unique combination of lived experience, clinical expertise, and genuine compassion to her work โ€” and weโ€™re incredibly lucky to have her on our team.
