It's been a pleasure having OT students Daniel and Michael with us over the past two weeks and the last day of their placement coincides with conclusion of celebrations of OT Week 2025.
Having students on placement brings energy, curiosity, and a passion for learning that uplifts our whole team. Their contributions remind us of the importance of mentoring the next generation of therapists and the value of shared knowledge in occupational therapy professional development.
It is always interesting to know what inspired our students on placement to enter the field of occupational therapy:
DANIEL: 1st-year OT student, Deakin University
With other family members working in healthcare, I chose a career change into occupational therapy because I wanted to pursue a more rewarding career path that makes a positive difference in people's lives. Achieving this by enabling people to regain independence with the activities that are most meaningful to them strongly resonates with my passion for promoting health and wellbeing. As a student, I have found myself particularly drawn to the field for it's breadth of opportunities to work with people across a variety of settings and life stages, making it a versatile and highly interesting career path.
MICHAEL: 1st Year OT Student, Australian Catholic University
While I have only been an OT Student for a year, I have enjoyed (almost) every moment of it. My journey so far has been filled with hard work and discipline, but ultimately great reward. I bear witness to the hard work of those within the profession, and the great impact they have. Though they are tasked with challenges and problems to solve, they persevere and strive to benefit the lives of those they work alongside. This is something that is observable throughout Rivergum Allied Therapies and the wider OT profession. These are all reasons I am pursuing the same path, to serve and impact the lives of those around me in a meaningful manner.
We wish both Daniel and Micheal great success with their future studies!
