Don’t it always seem to go, that you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone…

So often with our health, we only begin to value it when it’s slipping away.

But what if we chose to appreciate it now?
To listen to our bodies, to nurture them, and to recognise the quiet ways they support us every single day.

There is real wisdom in valuing your health while you have it

Meet George.

What started as a simple trip to the beach quickly changed his life.

After his injury, George was told to “wait it out.” But as the symptoms lingered, it became clear that something wasn’t right. Eventually, he was diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome - a condition many people experience but often struggle to get answers for.

Through working with The Concussion Naturopath, George focused on reducing inflammation and restoring balance in his body.

Now, he’s finally starting to feel like himself again.

Recovery from concussion isn’t always straightforward - but with the right support, healing is possible. 💚 Read more about George’s story via the link in bio

Not all support for the brain comes from the brain. 🧠

3-Indolepropionic Acid (IPA) is a beneficial compound produced by certain bacteria in the gut microbiome and it plays an interesting role in brain health.

✨ It can cross the blood–brain barrier
✨ It has anti-inflammatory effects in the brain
✨ It may help support the body’s response to inflammation

For people recovering from concussion, the gut–brain connection matters. Compounds like IPA are one example of how the microbiome can influence what’s happening in the brain.

It’s just another reminder that concussion recovery is never just about the brain, it’s about the whole system.

Concussion is often called the invisible illness because the symptoms aren’t always obvious to others. But for those experiencing it, the impact can be significant.

Recovery isn’t always a straight line, and many people don’t realise there are practitioners who can support them along the way.

09/03/2026

Treating concussion isn’t a one-person job.

More often than not, it takes a team of specialists working together to support true healing. This can include specialised concussion optometrists, osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists and yes, naturopaths too.

The tricky part? Many people don’t even realise this help exists… because they don’t realise they need it.

Concussion can affect multiple systems in the body, and when symptoms linger, it’s often a sign that the body needs support from different angles. Recovery works best when the right practitioners come together to support the whole picture.

Concussion is often treated like it’s just a moment in time - an injury that happens and then passes.

But the reality is very different.

A concussion isn’t just a single event. It’s a physiological process that begins with the injury and can continue to affect the body and brain for months, years, or even decades.

When we understand concussion this way, it changes how we approach healing. It’s not just about “waiting it out” - it’s about supporting the body, brain, and nervous system through recovery.

Your brain deserves more than being told to simply rest and move on.

The human hippocampus produces new neurons throughout life, this process is called neurogenesis. Previously it was thought that this process plummeted after middle age, however it has now been shown that neurons continue to produce at a fairly even rate throughout life.

So what is the key? 🔑

Maintaining brain health - and therefore systemic health of all tissues. Reducing inflammatory processes and providing the right conditions for healthy neuronal synthesis.

We have an opportunity to maximise healthy brain cell turnover PREINJURY, at the time of INJURY and at any point POST-INJURY. Because the body is always working to heal itself, the moment we support it and give it the parameters it needs to thrive means that we positively influence outcomes.

Here’s what I wish everyone knew about concussion injuries…

Your gut is actively involved when it comes to head trauma.

A concussion doesn’t just affect the brain. It impacts the entire nervous system and your gut is directly connected through the gut–brain axis.

Head impacts can actually change the microbiome.
They can alter the balance of gut bacteria, increase inflammation, and disrupt the communication between the brain and the digestive system.

After a head injury, we often see:
• Digestive changes
• Increased inflammation
• Heightened anxiety
• Food sensitivities
• Slower recovery

When we ignore the gut, we miss a crucial piece of the healing puzzle.

Supporting concussion recovery means looking beyond “rest and wait it out.” It means addressing the whole system - brain, gut and nervous system.

It’s time to change the game on concussion care.

As footy season kicks off, watching my two footy-loving boys chase the ball around the backyard reminds me why this work matters so much.

We must do better.

Better education.
Better prevention.
Better management.
Better recovery support.

For the next generation who love their sport.
For the kids who just want to get back out there.
For the athletes currently suffering.
For those still living with the aftermath of injuries from years gone by.

“Wait it out” isn’t good enough.
Every brain is different. Every concussion is different. Every recovery should be too.

It’s time to change the game on concussion.

“Just wait it out.”

If you’ve had a concussion, you’ve probably heard it. And it’s not good enough.

At The Concussion Naturopath, we believe it’s time to change the game.

🧠 “Wait it out” protocols don’t work.
🧠 No two brains are the same.
🧠 Your healing should be individual.

If you’re still dealing with symptoms, please know -there is more that can be done.

You deserve real support, not just time.

As a clinical Naturopath, I’m dedicated to your whole health

When it comes to concussion and the many post-concussive symptoms that can linger for months… or even years… you deserve more than “just wait it out.”

Symptoms can evolve over time. They can show up in ways you don’t expect. And they can impact everything from your energy and mood to your sleep, hormones, digestion and cognition.

You are not imagining it.
And you are not stuck.

Through personalised, evidence-informed naturopathic care, I help you navigate a more healthful path forward - supporting your nervous system, reducing inflammation, replenishing nutrients and guiding your body back toward balance.

Healing is possible. And you don’t have to do it alone.

✨ Ready to feel like yourself again? Let’s begin.

20/02/2026

People with concussion injuries or multiple head traumas are constantly telling me the same thing…

“There’s a disconnect between what I’m being told… and how I actually feel.”

They’re told:
✔️ “You’re fine.”
✔️ “Your scans are clear.”
✔️ “It’s probably stress.”
✔️ “Just give it time.”

But they’re living with:
– Brain fog
– Fatigue that doesn’t lift
– Mood swings
– Poor sleep
– Headaches
– Hormonal shifts
– Digestive changes

Just because your MRI is clear doesn’t mean your brain is functioning optimally.

Concussion isn’t just structural. It’s metabolic. It’s inflammatory. It’s physiological.

And when your symptoms don’t match the reassurance you’re given, it can make you doubt yourself.

You’re not imagining it.
You’re not weak.
You’re not “just anxious.”

There is a reason you feel the way you do.
And there is support available.

You deserve more than “wait it out.”
