Let's do the shake dance together! It's one of my favourite things to recommend. It feels silly but life is stressful and it works so well - we can talk about the things that stress us all day, but what are you doing to get that energy off of your body?
Step by step:
1. Find a safe space
Stand somewhere you feel comfortable. This can be in your room, outside, even in a bathroom stall! You do not need music, but if you want to you can.
2. Start with your breath
Take a few slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth.
3. Begin small
Start with gentle shaking in your hands and wrists. Let it feel a bit silly at first.
4. Let it spread
Allow the movement to shake through your arms, into your shoulders, chest, and legs. Don’t force it, let your body move how it wants to.
5. Go full body (if it feels silly af but so good)
Let your whole body move. Keep your knees soft, hips loose, arms floppy, no choreography. It can look chaotic and weird, that’s the point.
Keep going for 1–5 minutes, however long or little that you need. Then slow it down naturally and come to stillness.
Take a moment to notice how you feel afterwards. Less monkey mind? Catching your breath? A little less irritated?
