If your baby clearly prefers feeding on one side and resists the other, you’re not imagining it.
Many parents notice feeds feel calm and smooth on one breast but unsettled or tense on the other. Sometimes baby turns their head easily one way but not the other. Sometimes their body stiffens when positioned a certain way, or they settle better facing a single direction.
There can be many reasons for side preference.
From a musculoskeletal perspective, one thing we consider is neck movement. Comfortable, balanced rotation through both sides of the neck is important not just for feeding, but for overall symmetry as babies grow.
If turning one way feels easier, feeding on that side may simply feel more comfortable. Over time, consistently favouring one direction can reinforce that pattern.
We don’t diagnose feeding disorders and we don’t claim to treat latch or supply concerns. We assess mobility, symmetry, and positioning so parents can better understand whether physical tension could be contributing.
Ideally, babies can move and feed comfortably on both sides. If the preference is consistent, having it assessed properly can provide clarity rather than guesswork.
