Feeling dizzy, off balance... or just off? You’re not alone.

Vestibular disorders can cause symptoms like vertigo, imbalance, and chronic dizziness. Vestibular disorders can be tricky to diagnose. In fact, many people go undiagnosed for years which can lead to frustration, persistent symptoms and inappropriate treatment.

Let’s raise awareness and support those living with these challenging (but often hidden) conditions. 💬

There are three key players in maintaining your balance! ⚖️

👂 Vestibular System
The vestibular system is located within the inner ear and is made up of fluid-filled canals and sensory receptors. It is responsible for detecting changes in head position and movement and provides important feedback to the brain about our spatial orientation and motion.

👁️ Visual System
Our eyes are powerful sensors that provide visual information to our brain about our position and the movement of our surroundings.

🦵 Proprioceptive System
Embedded within our muscles, tendons, and joints is the proprioceptive system which provides feedback to the brain about the position and movement of our body. This internal sense of awareness helps us make automatic adjustments to our posture and movements, helping us maintain stability and coordination without even thinking about it.

Sometimes the communication between these systems can go awry, affecting your balance or leading to other symptoms such as headaches, dizziness or changes to your vision. Our physiotherapists can assess and treat many issues that affect balance or guide you to the right health professional if needed.

Let’s talk pelvic floor health👇

Your pelvic floor muscles work hard every day supporting bladder and bowel control, coordinating with your diaphragm, abdominal, and spinal muscles to help you breathe, lift, cough, and sneeze, and playing an important role in sexual health and postural support.

Despite these vital functions, pelvic floor health is often overlooked until issues such as incontinence, pain, or pelvic organ changes appear.

Our physiotherapists can assess your pelvic floor and create an individualised program to improve coordination, strength, function, and overall comfort.
