Access to independent advocacy is important.

📣 MEDIA RELEASE: It’s time for SA to fund independent disability advocacy

South Australia is the only state that doesn’t fund independent disability advocacy — despite clear recommendations from the Disability Royal Commission.

JFA Purple Orange is calling on all political parties to commit to fixing this via a long-term and stable funding model.

âś… Advocacy helps people with disability speak up, stay safe, and access services.
âś… It prevents abuse, neglect and harm.
✅ It’s life-changing — and potentially life-saving.

JFA Purple Orange is urging all parties to commit at least $3.4 million in the 2025–26 state budget to fund individual, representative and systemic advocacy.

Change is needed and long overdue.

South Australia is the only state that doesn’t fund independent disability advocacy.

That needs to change.

Independent advocacy helps people with disability speak up, solve problems, and stay safe. It’s also cost effective and recommended by the Disability Royal Commission.

At our State Election Disability Forum, we’re asking political candidates to commit to funding independent advocacy.

With Carers SA – I just got recognized as one of their top fans! 🎉
...But whats more important is that every one has a role to play to enabling better health and well being outcomes and creating wider access in the world around us. Those caring for loved ones are often doing there best in a system that doesn't fully appreciate and recognize the importance of their role, they are very often unpaid and unrecognized.

Often carers have to stop work, have to choose between work or looking after a loved one. This can create bad financial consequences and situations of poverty in already struggling house holds.

Reforms are needed to make sure that these supports can continue

Carers SA have a way for everyone to be heard:

If you are applying or currently on the Disability Support Pension (DSP) and want to know if working will change things, please see the information below.

Information is a powerful thing.

The Disability Support Pension or DSP is a Centrelink payment from the Government.

The DSP is for people who have a disability that affects how much they can work.

We have Easy Read information on our Everyone Can Work website about Work and the DSP. https://www.everyonecanwork.org.au/employment-support/work-and-the-dsp-easy-read/

It includes information about:
• How much you can earn on the DSP
• Hours you can work
• What you need to report to Centrelink
• The 2-year rule

To better represent the community the Angaston Show now has competition categories for people with disability’s.

The wonderful people at Developmental Supports have created some great cheat sheets to help get the information to the people.

Thanks to all those that helped make this change.

We all have a role to play to create inclusion.
The Future is Accessible

Everyone needs and Home.
30/01/2026

Everyone needs and Home.

Everyone deserves a safe and accessible place to call home 🏠

But right now, SA has blanket exemptions that mean many new homes don’t have to meet minimum accessibility standards.

At our State Election Disability Forum, we’re asking political parties:
➡️ Will you end these exemptions in April 2026?

Want to hear their answers?
