Big rambly post ahead!
When I started Sass and Sunshine back in 2020 I didn’t fully know where life was taking me. Or where the world was taking all of us! All I knew was that I wanted to be creative and share that with all you beautiful people!
I kind of fell into making cake toppers accidentally. I adored helping you bring your cake visions to life! But it wasn’t really the path I thought I’d be on. I’d been a doll designer and maker in the past. I’d dabbled with mixed media art. I loved paper craft. I had fun making cute printables. But none of it felt quite right…..
As life would have it, I hit some speed bumps in the form of a debilitating disease called endometriosis. I was diagnosed in 2013, and over the years it has wrought havoc with my health, to the point that in 2023 I had to do some serious reflecting as to how I was going to manage balancing my family, my health and wellbeing, and my goals for Sass and Sunshine. Whilst I have loved making physical/custom items, I’ve had to acknowledge that my ability to do it all is limited.
With that new perspective, my brain started tickling.
I’d gotten into bullet journaling and planning back in 2017 as a way to be organised but still have a creative outlet. I’d been shifting into more digital styles out of convenience, and had started to draw my own stickers. That was my lightbulb moment! What if I could merge all the different skills I’d collected over the years, my love of colour and pattern and all things cute, and launch my own range of digital stickers?
I’ve been very quiet this year. It’s been a huge year of self care, and learning, and growing. I’ve taught myself everything to do with digital drawing, planning and stickers from the ground up. I’ve cheered when things have gone right, and I’ve cried out of pure frustration when I’ve messed up or hit a roadblock. I’ve sat up til 3am drawing so many times that I’ve lost count, refining my ideas, making sure everything was exactly how I envisioned. And now I’m here in this moment, and I’m going to take a moment to celebrate, because I am so damn proud of me right now, and what I have managed to achieve!
