📝 “Reasons to Start Writing Your Story”.

I’m on my way to Sydney for Celebrant training and just in time for my journey, my first copy of The Celebrant (a magazine especially for celebrants) arrived just in time to read on the train 🚊.

What a beautiful magazine, the moment I opened to read the editorial it felt like home.

An article said something that for me deeply resonated (on a personal and professional level), it went along the lines of ‘when it comes to the story of your life, if you don’t want someone else writing it, start writing it now’.

When it comes to funerals, in your time and your families time of grief it can be hard to articulate and put into words what you want said, about your life about your loved ones life.

So the advice above is so pertinent for all of us.

Start writing your story now, that way all the significant and special moments (from the challenging & heartbreaking to the achievements & happiest moments) will be captured.

Having these moments documented will mean that the person who gets to tell and deliver your story will have a great basis to create a ceremony that truly honours you and your loved ones.

So start writing down and noting all those times in your life, as a side benefit you’ll be surprised by how much you’ve been through, created & achieved in this life time.

Use it as a way to inspire you further in this lifetime 💜

Did you know that the top priorities of your marriage celebrant will be to ensure that your ceremony is conducted in accordance to the law and that all of your documents are accurately completed and submitted to Births Deaths & Marriages within the required time-frames?

Celebrants in Australia are required under The Marriage Act 1961 to ensure that your ceremony is conducted in accordance to the law and that your Notice of Intent to Marry is completed within the required time-frames, the you complete and understand the declaration of no legal impediment to marry and that your marriage certificates are all correctly completed and signed.

Your marriage celebrant may also be able to assist you by applying for your marriage certificate from Births Deaths & Marriages on your behalf (this is not available in all states) - If this is an option for you in your state I would highly recommend you utilising this service, as it's a streamlined process for you to obtaining your certificate from Births Deaths & Marriages (BDM).

If you're planning on changing your name following your marriage the BDM certificate will be required.

If you're about to plan your wedding, I would be happy to have a chat with you about your ceremony requirements and to see if we would be a fit to work together for your wedding.

A fascinating story on Australian Story about the town in Port Kembla who have created a not for profit funeral home.

An approach to doing death and funerals differently...

"Tender has a mission to provide personalised and affordable funerals, and to demystify the funeral process and put it back in the hands of the grieving".

Such an inspiring story about how we can do death and funerals differently.

From a young age I've had an interest in death, dying and how we can support people in the transition of death and the families grieving following the death of a loved one.

In high school I thought that I was going to become a funeral director, but life took me in a slightly different direction.

When I completed my diploma in celebrancy funeral services and grief were subjects that I studied.

Several years later I heard a term 'death doula' and I researched training in that area, I decided upon training provided by Denise Love with Life Options.

We can do death and funerals differently and it's inspiring to see communities get together and create this.

A little story about how I became a Marriage Celebrant “twice”…

After being involved in many of my friends’ weddings as a Bridesmaid & Maid of Honour, I got a little wedding crazy and I decided to become a celebrant. In 2012, I studied a Diploma of Celebrancy (including Marriage, Funeral & Grief).

I became an authorised Marriage Celebrant and was blessed to be the officiant for some really beautiful couples, then I decided to take a break and focus on full-time employment.

This would come to be a decision that I reassessed many times over the following years and this year (in 2022) with a little synchronicity and guidance, I decided to re-register as a Marriage Celebrant.

So here I am ready to assist you with creating your meaningful ceremonies for you and your loved ones.

Contact me via phone or messenger to see how we could work together to create your ceremony.
