Meet young Wylie from Orange, NSW. This beautiful little whippet has partially torn his cruciate ligament. After a few weeks of medication and cage rest we started the physical rehabilitation process in conjunction with Dr. Judith from Mulberry Lane Vet Hospital to get Wylie back on all of his paws. Here he is with me in his home relaxing into his second massage. Giving him an all over massage will not just accelerate the healing process in his injured leg, but will also help avoid compensatory issues which could arise from Wylie favoring one leg. He particularly enjoyed his gluteals, femoral biceps and sartorius muscles being massaged (i.e. his buttocks and upper leg). I will keep you posted on his progress.

Here are 30 interesting facts about our best friends. I don't think I have ever noticed a dog wagging his tail only to one side, I'll have to keep an eye on my dogs' tails... What other facts can you think of? Or tell me about a funny peculiarity of your dog (with pictures!) :)

I see countless dogs at the vet clinic every year, especially in spring, who have torn or ruptured their cruciate ligament. Two of my own dogs had ruptured their cruciates and had them surgically repaired a couple of years ago. If your dog didn't get out much during winter and hasn't exercised for a while, please make sure you ease them back into all the activities you can do again now that it is warming up. Taking your dog on gentle walks on a lead to warm up before chasing the ball or running around with their doggy friends is an easy way to lessen the risk of ligament damage after the winter break. Massage is also a great way to warm up stiff muscles, keep them supple and therefore prevent injury. Carrying too much weight puts a lot of strain on a dog's joints and can be a contributing factor to joint or ligament damage. Moral of the story: Get outside, enjoy the sun, exercise BUT take it easy to begin with πŸ‘’πŸ˜ŽπŸ•πŸˆ

This is Pepin, he settled right in for his second massage today. Pepin is a very active little man and therefore pretty healthy and mobile. His mum Ingrid and he spend a lot of time together doing obedience training, agility and going for walks through the neighborhood making new friends. Couldn't all our dogs do with a little bit more training? But where to go if you don't like the seriousness of obedience classes but your dog is too old for puppy class? Check out Ingrid's page Best Paw Forward Bathurst Training for dogs and their owners in a relaxed setting that will set you and your dog up for life.
