Weight loss is a really sensitive topic. Rarely is overeating for the sake of it the cause of weight gain and obesity, but there is often an underlying emotional or psychological factor. Long-term, sustainable weight loss is often about addressing the underlying emotional or psychological factors that might be driving unhealthy eating habits, rather than just focusing on willpower or restrictive diets.

If you have been on a journey towards weight loss and feel like you’re getting nowhere, consider chatting with a counsellor or psychologist to help you get to the ROOT cause of overeating. Eating is such a common stress-relief strategy, but there are so many other ways of dealing with stress that can be workshopped and brainstormed with a professional :)

As kids head back to school, check out these healthy lunchbox ideas. Build their lunchbox by simply choosing an option from each food group to keep kids fueled throughout their day.

TIP - Don’t just make lunch boxes for the kids, make one for yourself too! Even if you’re a stay-at-home parent, working from home or traveling for work, take the guess-work out of choosing foods throughout the day and pack your own lunch!

Rest isn’t just about sleep. You can have wonderful sleep and still feel exhausted and restless. Here are 7 types of rest, are you getting them all?

1. Physical Rest
Eg. Sleep, Gentle activities like yoga, stretching, or massages.

2. Mental Rest
Eg. Taking short breaks between tasks to recharge, Journaling thoughts to reduce mental overwhelm., Practicing mindfulness or meditation to quiet your mind.

3. Sensory Rest
Eg. Turning off notifications and reducing screen time, Spending time in a quiet, dimly lit space, Using noise-canceling headphones or practicing “digital detox” hours.

4. Emotional Rest
Eg. Talking to a trusted friend or therapist about your feelings, Setting boundaries to avoid people-pleasing.

5. Social Rest
Eg. Spending time alone or with people who uplift and energise you, Saying "no" to social events that feel obligatory rather than enjoyable.

6. Creative Rest
Eg. Enjoying nature, like walking in a park or hiking. Visiting art galleries, listening to inspiring music, Engaging in a hobby like craft or crochet

7. Spiritual Rest
Practicing gratitude or prayer. Volunteering for a cause that aligns with your values.

Which areas of rest are you missing the most?

Do you want New Years Resolutions you’ll ACTUALLY stick to? Here are some tips for how to do this!

1. Reflect on the Past Year
✏️ Identify areas in your life you’d like to improve or continue growing.
✏️ Consider successes, challenges, and lessons learned in 2024.

2. Be Specific
✏️Vague goals like "get healthier" or "save money" often fail. Instead:
* Health: “Exercise for 30 minutes, 3 times a week.”
* Finance: “Save $100 monthly by cutting unnecessary expenses.”

3. Make it Achievable
✏️Set goals that are realistic within your current resources, time, and abilities.
* Unrealistic: “Lose 10 kg in a month.”
* Realistic: “Lose 1kg in two months by eating balanced meals and walking daily.”

4. Break It Down
✏️Break larger resolutions into smaller, actionable steps.
* For "Write a book," start with "Write 300 words daily" or "Outline the plot in January."

5. Make it Measurable
✏️Define success in concrete terms:
* Instead of "Spend more time with family," try “Have a family game night every Friday.”

6. Attach a Timeline
✏️Set a deadline or regular check-in points to stay accountable.
* E.g., “Run a 5K by June 30” or “Declutter one room per week in January.”

7. Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
✏️Allow room for setbacks without abandoning the goal.
* Celebrate small wins to stay motivated.

8. Make it Meaningful
✏️Tie the resolution to your core values or a larger purpose.
* Instead of “Read more,” think “Read one book per month to expand my knowledge about personal growth.”

All the best with your new years resolutions!
