Welcome to Thriving Self, passionately operated and managed by Cynthia Hip-Waye, a Clinical Psychologist with three decades of experience. Apart from working overseas with children and families suffering from abuse and neglect, Cynthia has worked in Community Health Centres (NSW Health) for 18 years whereby gaining extensive skills working with clients suffering from depression, anxiety, domestic violence, childhood sexual abuse, grief and loss, parental stress, trauma and personality disorders. Cynthia has intensive training and experience working with trauma related issues especially Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Cynthia is also highly accomplished in the assessment and treatment of adults, children and family with mental health issues. However, her current focus, passion and specialisation is working with adolescents and adults with anxiety, depression and trauma.
Cynthia’s main therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). From the many years of experience working with clients who have complex, chronic and multiple mental health issues, she has found that an integrative approach that embraces Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MBCT) speed up healing and prevent relapse of mental health issues in such clientele.
Cynthia works in a holistic approach that embodies the psychological, physical, relational and spiritual health of her clients and takes in consideration the individual’s unique environment and cultural background.
Whilst providing evidence-based interventions, her aim is to provide a warm, caring, non-judgemental and empathetic experience whereby clients can feel comfortable and safe to learn new skills, more effective coping strategies and healthier core beliefs so as to manage life challenges and have a more meaningful life.
Her commitment towards her clients is to facilitate their move towards their valued goals and their transition from a Surviving Self to a THRIVING SELF!

- Bachelor (Honours) degree in Psychology at University of Central Lancashire in England
- Master degree in Clinical Psychology at Macquarie University
- Full registration, endorsement as a Clinical Psychologist with Allied Practitioners Health Registration Agency
- Member of the Australian Psychological Society
- Member of College of Clinical Psychologists
- Certified Neuro-psychotherapy practitioner by International Association of Applied Neuroscience
- Board-approved Clinical Supervisor with Psychology Board of Australia
- Registered Medicare Provider, 4264405T – available for telehealth sessions
Thriving Self psychology practice is located in Norwest which is close to Norwest train and public transport and has free parking outside the office building.
