Positive Vibes Foundation

Positive Vibes Foundation Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing in the COMMUNITY through CONNECTIONS and CONVERSATIONS.

The Positive Vibes Foundation was formed in 2014 by a psychiatrist working in Castle Hill. The charity was driven by the need to eliminate the stigma around mental health, which at the time was preventing many from seeking treatment. While the stigma has lessened somewhat today, conversations around mental health are still vital in helping more people within the community to live healthier lives.

Through Positive Vibes’ four core programs – The Hills Women’s Shed, Paw Visits, the Young Healthy Minds Forum and Community Engagement – we are working to make deeper connections and increase the conversation around mental wellbeing.

Passing of Former Chairman of Positive Vibes Foundation — Jay Bacik🕯️

It is with great sadness that we mark the death this week of Jay Bacik, who served as Chairman of this charity from 2019 until 2021. With a deep belief in the vision and work of the Positive Vibes Foundation, his leadership contributed greatly to our growth and our reputation as a reliable, responsible, and responsive entity.

Those who met or worked with Jay will long speak of his dynamic and inclusive personality. A man of compassion, Jay’s life was one of service — first as a minister with the Churches of Christ, and later through the positions he held in the not-for-profit sector. Life Education, the Sydney City Mission, Diabetes Australia, and the State Parole Board all benefited from his intellect and energy.

Those who listened to Macquarie Radio stations will recall Jay’s years as a regular broadcaster, particularly in the Sunday evening timeslot.

To Jay’s widow, Diane, and their family, the Board and members of PVF extend our deepest sympathy for the loss of their beloved Jay. He will long be remembered and respected by those who knew him.

To your pet, you’re everything. They don’t see your bad days or your doubts; they just see you. 🐾💞

And maybe that’s a good reminder to be a little kinder to yourself, too.

Next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, spend a few minutes with your furry friend.

It could be something small:
“I handled that well.”
“I’m doing my best.”
“I kept going even when it was hard.”

The way you speak to yourself matters more than you think.

Mental health challenges are especially common among young people.

Nearly 2 in 5 young adults experienced a mental disorder in the past 12 months. Behind every number is a real person navigating school, work, identity, and life transitions.

If you’re struggling, you are not alone — and support is available.

Rest is not laziness. It’s necessary.

You don’t have to earn your break. You don’t have to finish everything first. Your mind and body deserve recovery just as much as productivity.

Take the pause. Release the guilt. 💙

Movement isn’t just about fitness. It’s about mental wellbeing too. Even gentle movement like stretching, walking, or breathing can help release tension and improve your mood.

You don’t need to do more. Just move in a way that feels good for you. 💙

Mental health challenges affect more people than we realise. 21.5% of Australians experienced a mental disorder in the past 12 months. That’s more than 1 in 5 people.

You’re not alone, and support is available. Talking about mental health helps break the stigma and open doors to care.

If your mind feels heavy, pause the scroll. Doom scrolling can quietly drain your energy, mood, and focus, especially when you’re already feeling overwhelmed.

Take a breath. Put the phone down. Do something grounding, even for a minute. Your mental health deserves more than endless bad news.

Save this for later or send it to someone who might need it.

Bringing smiles to seniors, one paw at a time 🐾 Our Paw Visits Program pairs volunteers and their dog-friendly companions with aged care homes to create moments of joy, comfort, and connection.

Visits take place twice a month across Glenhaven, Oatlands, and North Parramatta, with plans to expand even further!

If you can spare 1–2 Saturday mornings a month, or would love Paw Visits at your care home, we’d love to hear from you. Research shows dogs can boost both mental and physical wellbeing and we see it every visit.
