When the script dissolves and the heart takes over.
I was asked by a colleague to do a brief interview about culture and its importance and relevance in trauma-informed practices. Something unexpected happened — all of my preparation, my carefully outlined talking points, just… disappeared.
Not because I wasn’t ready.
But because the moment called for something deeper.
His questions were thoughtful. Intentional. And they cracked open space for something raw, real, and unfiltered. We didn’t just talk about culture — we sat in it. In the discomfort. In the complexity. In the possibility.
What emerged wasn’t a polished presentation.
It was a human-to-human exchange, grounded in truth, humility, and deep cultural reflection.
This is what I’m passionate about — creating space for honest conversations about culture, trauma, healing, reflexivity and adaptation. These aren’t just buzzwords — they’re the scaffolding of safety. The backbone of true connection. The beginning of collective repair.
In trauma-informed work, we talk a lot about safety, trust, and empowerment. But culture holds those elements too. And when we honour culture with respect and openness, we can begin to move beyond boundaries — beyond performance — into something profoundly transformative.
Let’s keep making room for these kinds of conversations.
