Telstra is experiencing nation-wide outages today which means customers are unable to make or receive calls, often receiving a “the number you have called has been disconnected” message. SMS does not seem to be affected.
I apologise if you can’t reach me by phone.

My new office view - a gift from my amazing husband, which I have acquascaped. I’m waiting now for the water parameters to stabilise so I can add a beautiful fish.

My co-worker got into a bit of mischief this morning - trying to find a lizard in the rock garden. He destroyed a number of argaves which his body doesn’t like.
Emergency bath and a trip to the vet this morning. Now he’s chilling out with me and sleepy from the antihistamines 🤔

Today, I had a big win for a private client. This client had made an insurance claim for property damage following a storm event. Her insurer partially paid for some damages but declined to cover the biggest proportion of the damage citing a lack of maintenance and/or age of the property. My client managed this claim and complaint herself for almost one year before I stepped in and took over.
It has been a two-year process of making an initial complaint, escalating to the insurer's internal dispute resolution process and then proceeding to make a formal complaint to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA). It has been a long, drawn-out process however, today, AFCA issued their preliminary assessment in favour of my client.

I am so proud of the work that I have done with this claim. There have been many hours of research and learning about the topic in dispute however, today, my efforts paid off. This feels very much like a David & Goliath win. 🙌

“Spoofing is where software is used by scammers to copy the phone number or sender ID of a business.

The ACCC says “these scams are a sophisticated form of phishing and are designed to trick victims into contacting the scammers”.

“As the sender ID is spoofed the communication looks legitimate and people think they are dealing with their bank and will call the telephone contained in the SMS,” a spokesperson said.

“These communications often have a sense of urgency to them, such as money being taken from your account, or a freeze on your account. Scammers use these tactics so people act quickly and not take the time to think – ‘could this be a scam’?

The ACCC says both outgoing and incoming phone numbers can be spoofed.”

The 18-year-old had hoped to use the money on a house deposit or future studies. Now the banks have closed her case and told her there’s nothing they can do.
