I’ve just returned from 3 delightful days on the Yorke Peninsula, during which beach walking was my movement choice (along with more sedentary practices, such as reading and playing board games)

MOVEMENT practices come in so many shapes and forms and it’s so important to shift gears and move in different ways in order to challenge, strengthen, adapt and regenerate muscles and tissues PLUS the benefits to our brain!

This is one of the reasons our practices together at YOGA GARAGE are so varied.
Yin, Yang, Flow, MFR and lots of fascia based movement classes!

We live in a fast paced world full of sights, sounds and distractions.
SO much information coming at us from every direction can leave us feeling anxious and overstimulated!

How can we reclaim the calm centre that is within each of us?

Mindful practices such as yoga and meditation, walking or sitting in nature, switching off our phones, tv’s, computers and having a technology break is important too!

Slow down. Breathe.

This week in the studio we will be exploring The Five Tibetan Rites, also known as the “Fountain of Youth,” are a series of five movements said to have been practiced by Tibetan Monks for over 2500 years. 
First described in the Western world by Peter Kelder in a 1939 booklet titled The Eye of Revelation,  these movements were later referred to as  “The Five Rites”, “The Five Tibetans” and “The Five Rites of Rejuvenation”.

Practitioners of the Tibetan Rites report increased energy and mental clarity, greater spinal flexibility, a decrease in body pains especially within the joints, better sleep, better digestion and improved libido.

From a more ‘yogic’ point of view, the power of the Rites lies in the positive effect on our chakras. 

The movements activate, energise and balance the chakra system which corresponds with our endocrine glands. Some of the major endocrine glands are the thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, pancreas, adrenals and ovaries, and the hormones secreted by these glands play a vital role in controlling and regulating many of the body’s functions. 

In short, when our endocrine system is working well, we feel well.

Spring is a time of renewal, welcoming the opportunity to begin again. By bringing new energy into the light we can let go and detox ourselves from all that no longer serves us!
JOIN US FOR 2 DELICIOUS HOURS OF YIN this Friday from 7pm (booking link in bio and at yogagarage.punchpass.com.au)

ACTIVATED CHIA BERRY BREAKY 
As the weather warms up, I love having some of these chia seed pots in the fridge ready for my breaky after morning practice. One of my favorites once you get the hang of making them it only takes a couple of minutes and presto - 4 breakfasts organised. YUM. Be patient - at first the mix looks to wet, but keep stirring and the seeds will start to absorb the liquid. Once this has happened you can easily transferred into jars / pots and pop in the fridge where they’ll firm up a bit more.

* Ingredients *
6 tbsp chia seeds
1 ½ cups almond milk (or milk of choice, I’ve used cow milk and coconut milk too)
¼ cup goji berries
2 tbsp shredded coconut
2 tbsp sunflower seeds
2 tsp maca powder (optional)
1 tbsp maple syrup or 6 drops liquid stevia or a little honey
¼ tsp vanilla (essence or paste)
* Method *
+ mix all ingredients together in a bowl
+ pour into jar, top with frozen berries if you are on the go + refrigerate overnight
+ serve with fruit/berries + additional organic yogurt of choice if desired
Serves 2 - 4 depending on how hungry you are!!! With fresh berries and coconut yogurt this is yummy as a desert too.

🧡 Over the weekend I made a nice potion of goodness with freshly picked orange and lemon, some oregano and rosemary from the garden and a good chunk of grated ginger plus honey fermented garlic all blended up (delicious)

We’re back in the studio!

It’s been wonderful to see students back on the mat in our beautiful light filled space 💚

Current Government guidelines allow for 18 people per class, so classes are filling quickly.
