Other factors that can increase the risk of developing lower back pain include fitness level, age, gender, weight gain, genetics, and job-related factors.

If you are experiencing back pain, there are several effective home remedies that you can try to manage the pain.

If left untreated for long, lower back issues can cause chronic pain in the back muscles and spine and even lead to permanent disabilities.

Fortunately, several natural and simple home remedies can relieve lower back pain.

Stay watching while I show you my top 8 pain-relieving strategies for lower back pain.

Number 1 is Get enough sleep.

While pain can make it difficult to sleep, not getting enough sleep can trigger or worsen back pain.

Getting adequate sleep helps your body rest and relax.

The body also heals and restores damaged areas during sleep.

According to a CDC report, adults need between 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day.

If you have sleep problems, you probably need to address those alongside your lower back pain.

You can treat sleep issues by changing your lifestyle, practicing good sleep hygiene, and taking medication, among other things.

Number 2 is Get enough exercises.

Certain exercises such as tai chi and yoga can help ease lower back pain and strengthen muscles in your legs and core, leading to reduced lower back pain.

Additionally, exercise increases blood flow to parts of the lower back, which reduces stiffness.

There are several simple exercises that can help relieve back pain.

These include bridges, knee-to-chest stretches, lower back rotational stretches, draw-in maneuvers, pelvic tilts, and cat stretches.

You have to be selective and only perform exercises that won’t cause further pain and injury to your lower back.

You may need to work with a healthcare professional, such as a physiotherapist, to determine the right exercise for your back pain, depending on the cause and severity.

Number 3 is Use heat and cold therapy.

Heat and cold therapy effectively relieve back pain, both on its own or with other treatments.

You can apply ice packs immediately after an injury to reduce tissue damage, inflammation, and pain.

The numbing effect relieves intense pain.

Ice therapy increases blood flow to the painful area, which speeds up the healing process.

Applying heat along your back may also help relax stiff or achy muscles.

Number 4 is Use pain-relief cream.

There is a wide variety of pain-relief creams available in stores and pharmacies.

Many pain-relief creams have capsaicin as an ingredient.

This compound is found in hot pepper and is a good back pain reliever.

Other types of pain-relief creams have menthol, which helps soothe the affected area and blocks pain receptors in the body.

You need to use menthol in recommended quantities as too much of it can increase your pain sensitivity, a condition that can affect your nervous system.

Number 5 is Manage stress levels.

During stressful moments, cortisol and adrenaline are released and cause tightening of the muscles in your neck, shoulders, and down the spine.

Over time, tightening or tension in these areas can lead to lower back pain. Strategies to manage stress include mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and yoga.

Number 6 is Practice good posture.

One of the major triggers of lower back pain is poor posture.

Poor posture can weaken the tissues in your lower back, which results in the discs and joints being pushed beyond their limits and causing pain.

Maintaining good sitting, sleeping, and standing posture can spread weight evenly across your spine and reduce pressure on the spinal discs.

To strengthen your back muscles and joints, you can practice exercises like bridges, cat stretches, and pelvic tilts.

Number 7 is Practice mindful meditation.

Meditation helps the body release endorphins or feel-good hormones.

Endorphins act as natural pain relievers and help stabilize your pain levels.

Meditate for at least 5 to 10 minutes every day in a quiet, dark room.

Back pain can interrupt your day or interfere with your plans.

In fact, there’s an 84 percent chance that you will develop low back pain in your lifetime.

But back pain isn’t always something you can ignore or wait for it to resolve on its own.

Thankfully, there are several ways to treat back pain at home.

These remedies include everything from herbs to massages. Keep watching to see how you can ease your back pain.

Try oils and ointments to ease pain.

There are plenty of pain rubs and ointments to help ease pain by blocking the sensation.

For example, creams with capsaicin can desensitize the pain channels in the affected area.

Other ingredients you can look for in topical creams include.

Ketoprofen or Diractin, ibuprofen or Nurofen or Dolgit, diclofenac or Voltaren, lidocaine or Lidoderm, cayenne, comfrey and Brazilian arnica.

Research suggests that topical medications may be just as effective as oral ones.

Many of them worked significantly better than placebo.

These medications can come in the form of gels, creams, patches, and more.

One study also saw a decrease in pain when people applied lavender essential oil or ointments prepared with cayenne peppers with acupressure.

Some other brand standards include Icy Hot or Tiger Balm.

The effectiveness and side effects of each brand can vary from user to user.

You may experience skin irritation with certain brands.

Be sure to patch test.

Apply a small amount and wait 24 hours to see if you experience any side effects before doing a complete application.

Gently massaging a sore or tense muscle is one of the most effective ways to loosen it up and relieve pain.

One study found that massage therapy along with traditional treatment reduces back pain.

It also improves back function, lessens use of anti-inflammatory medications and minimizes days in bed.

They also found no difference between relaxation massages and structural massages, although structural massages tend to be more expensive.

Consider asking your partner or a close friend for a massage, if cost is an issue.

You can also ask them to use medicated ointment for extra pain relief.

What to eat to ease back pain.

There’s minimal evidence that an alkaline diet improves low back pain.

An alkaline diet involves eating foods that are less acidic.

Foods that have grown in more acidic soils may have less calcium, magnesium, and potassium.

People have also used herbs and supplements to reduce back pain.

One study found that the following herbs reduce back pain more than a placebo.

Devil’s claw: 50 or 100 mg daily and Willow bark: 120 or 240 mg daily.

Always talk to your doctor before starting to use any herbal medicines.

They may interact with your current medications and cause unintended side effects.

Stretches to improve your symptoms.

Exercises are good for people who have low back pain.

They can help restore muscles and protect you from future pain.

Some exercises that are known to reduce symptoms are, walking on flat ground, standing backbends, Cobra pose and press ups.

Stretching can also loosen up tense muscles and strengthen those that need some help.

Anytime you begin stretching, you should approach each step gently.

Stop any stretching exercise that causes pain as forcing a stretch damage or cause strains.

You can also try starting your mornings with a yoga routine.

One study shows that yoga can be as effective as physical therapy exercises in reducing back pain.

Yoga incorporates many stretching maneuvers that can reduce muscle tension that increases back pain.

Take a relaxing Epsom salt bath.

Epsom salt, or magnesium sulfate, works its way through the skin and into sore muscles.

Soaking for about 20 minutes can help to ease sore back muscles, especially after exercise.

When taking an Epsom salt bath, you’ll want to make sure the water is warm.

Hot water can cause muscles to swell and cold water can cause muscles to cramp.

The Arthritis Foundation recommends a temperature between 92 and 100 Farenheit (33 and 38 Celsius). Temperatures higher than 104 Fahrenheit or 40 Celsius, aren’t recommended, especially if you have heart problems.

You can also enhance the soothing results by bringing a tennis ball or other rubber ball that’s similar in size, with you in the tub.

Put it on the small of your back or mid back and move side to side.

In a moment I’m going to give you my entire remedy to get rid of lower back pain for good.

I would like to discuss the Best Sleeping Positions for Lower Back Pain, as well as some other things you can do to get a better night’s rest.

Number 1 is Sleep on your side with a pillow between your knees.

If lying flat on your back feels uncomfortable, try shifting over to your side.

Allow your right or left shoulder to make contact with the mattress, along with the rest of that side of your body.

Place a pillow between your knees.

If there’s a gap between your waist and the mattress, consider using a small pillow there for added support.

Whether you use one pillow or opt for two, you should resist the urge to always sleep on the same side.

Doing so may cause issues like muscle imbalance and even scoliosis.

How does this position help?

Sleeping on your side alone won’t make you feel better.

It’s using the pillow between your knees that’s the trick.

The pillow will keep your hips, pelvis, and spine in better alignment.

Number 2 is Sleep on your side in the fetal position.

If you have a herniated disc, you may want to try sleeping on your side curled in a fetal position:

Lay on your back and then roll over gently onto your side.

Tuck your knees toward your chest and gently curl your torso toward your knees.

Remember to switch sides from time to time to prevent any imbalances.

How does this position help?

Your discs are soft cushions between the vertebrae in your spine.

Herniation happens when part of a disc pushes out of its normal space, causing nerve pain, weakness, and more.

Curling your torso into a fetal position opens the space between vertebrae.

Number 3 is Sleep on your stomach with a pillow under your abdomen.

You may have heard that sleeping on your stomach is actually bad for back pain.

This is partly true because it may add stress to your neck.

But if you find yourself resting on your stomach, you don’t have to force another position.

Instead place a pillow under your pelvis and lower abdomen to relieve some of the pressure off your back.

Depending on how this position feels, you may or may not choose to use a pillow under your head.

How does this position help?

People who have degenerative disc disease may benefit most from stomach sleeping with a pillow.

It can relieve any stress that is placed on the space between your discs.

Number 4 is Sleep on your back with a pillow under your knees.

For some people, sleeping on their back may be the best position to relieve back pain.

Lay flat on your back.

Place a pillow underneath your knees and keep your spine neutral.

The pillow is important as it works to keep that curve in your lower back.

You may also place a small, rolled up towel under the small of your back for added support.

How does this position help?

When you sleep on your back, your weight is evenly distributed and spread across the widest area of your body.

As a result, you place less strain on your pressure points.

You’re also able to get better alignment of your spine and your internal organs.

And finally number 5 is Sleep on your back in a reclined position.

Do you feel most comfortable snoozing in a recliner?

Although sleeping in a chair may not be the best choice for back pain, this position can be beneficial if you have isthmic spondylolisthesis.

Consider investing in an adjustable bed so you can sleep this way with the best alignment and support.

How does this position help?

Isthmic spondylolisthesis is a condition where a vertebra slips over the one below it.

Reclining may be beneficial for your back because it creates an angle between your thighs and trunk.

This angle helps to reduce the pressure on your spine.

No matter what position you choose, keeping proper alignment of your spine is the most important part of the equation.

Focus specifically on aligning your ears, shoulders, and hips.

You may notice gaps between your body and the bed that strain your muscles and spine.

You can reduce this stress by using pillows to fill the gaps.

Be careful while turning in bed.

You can get out of alignment during twisting and turning motions as well.

Always move your entire body together, keeping your core tight and pulled in.

You may even find it helpful to bring your knees toward your chest as you roll over.

I was in the same position as you, and honestly I thought I’d tried everything.

Then I discovered this natural remedy and it completely went away.

In a moment I’m going to give you my entire remedy to get rid of lower back pain for good.

If you’ve ever had low back pain, you may have scanned the shelves of your local drugstore or filled a prescription from your doctor.

But not all medicines are created equal.

Here are the top 5 for low back pain.

Number 1 is Acetaminophen or Tylenol.

Your doctor may suggest this as a first-line treatment.

It works by stopping the pain process.

But it doesn’t reduce inflammation in the body.

Acetaminophen tends to be gentler on the stomach than other meds.

But while it can be helpful in relieving toothaches, headaches, and pain after surgery, there’s not a lot of evidence to indicate it works as well for back pain.

The risks are it can damage the liver if it’s taken in high doses.

That’s why doctors advise taking around 3,000 milligrams a day even though the maximum daily dose (according to the FDA) is 4,000 mg.

Number 2 is Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or Aspirin, Ibuprofen and Motrin.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are alternatives to acetaminophen that you can buy without a prescription.

They help fight swelling and fever.

The risks are they can cause digestive problems like nausea and diarrhea, as well as heartburn and stomach pain.

Rarely, they can have serious side effects like internal bleeding and ulcers.

They may also cause heart problems and kidney damage.

Number 3 is Muscle Relaxants.

In some cases, your doctor might prescribe these for your low back pain.

Some of the most commonly used muscle relaxants are Cyclobenzaprine or Flexeril, Metaxalone or Skelaxin, and Tizanidine or Zanaflex.

These drugs work by helping to ease spasms in the muscles.

Muscle relaxants carry a big risk of side effects, like drowsiness and dizziness.

Number 4 is Antidepressants.

This might be an option if your pain is neuropathic, meaning it shoots down your leg.

But you probably won’t see results right away.

Most people get moderate relief after taking these meds for several weeks.

While taking antidepressants, you might experience drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation.

And finally number 5 is Opioids.

Doctors sometimes prescribe these for low back pain.

But recent research shows that they usually only provide short-term relief.

And they carry a lot of risks, like hormonal changes and dependency.

For this reason, doctors don’t usually prescribe them for chronic, or long-term, pain.

If yours does, they'll also likely recommend other therapies, like exercise or lifestyle changes.

And, they’ll monitor you regularly to make sure they’re easing your pain and improving your function without causing harm.

Aside from the possible side effects mentioned above, opioids can also cause nausea and constipation in the short term.

Over time, they can lead to depression and sexual dysfunction.

First I want to discuss Home remedies for lower back pain.

80% of people will experience back pain at some time, but there are ways to find relief.

As people enter middle age, they are more likely to experience bouts of low back pain.

Over time, the bones and joints in your lower back begin to change.

Your discs (the structures that serve as cushions between the bones in the spine) tend to wear out and sometimes become fragmented.

These structural alterations sometimes cause pain.

Another cause of low back pain, although it occurs less often, is a herniated disc.

Sometimes, a disc pushes outside the space between the bones and compresses a nerve at the point where it branches off the spinal cord.

When the sciatic nerve that leads into the buttocks and leg is affected, the pain is called sciatica.

Most cases of low back pain stem from strain or sprain due to simple overuse, unaccustomed activity, excessive lifting, or an accident.

In most cases the best move is to wait and see if the pain resolves on its own.

If the pain does not improve after three to four days, then it's time to see a doctor.

However, depending on the source of your back pain and its severity, you might try a few home remedies for low back pain to help ease the pain until your back returns to normal.

Here are several options to consider:

Number 1 is Cold and heat therapies.

It's best to use cold compresses or an ice pack, not heat, immediately following a back injury, since this can alleviate pain by numbing the area and prevent or reduce swelling.

About 48 hours after the onset of back pain, though, applying heating pads or a hot-water bottle to your back may be helpful.

The warmth soothes and relaxes aching muscles and increases blood flow, which helps the healing process.

Keep in mind that heat therapy is only helpful for the first week.

Number 2 is Limited bed rest.

Once the mainstay of treatment for back pain, bed rest has fallen out of favor.

Doctors now know it's better to keep moving, so that your muscles don't become stiff.

Bed rest can still be useful relief from low back pain, particularly if your pain is so severe that it hurts to sit or stand.

But try to limit it to a few hours at a time and for no more than one or two days.

Number 3 is Physical activity.

Exercise helps build strong, flexible muscles that will be less prone to injury.

It can also help the healing process for an aching back, prevent problems in the future, and improve function.

Work with your doctor to develop an exercise program, or seek a referral to another health professional who can.

A good program typically includes the three major forms of exercise: aerobic activity, strength training, and flexibility exercises.

Number 4 is Complementary therapies.

Several types of complementary therapy may be helpful for relief from low back pain.

These include:

Acupuncture, in which therapists insert hair-thin sterilized needles into precise points in the body to release blocked energy.

Spinal manipulation, in which chiropractors apply pressure directly to the body to correct spinal alignment.

Therapeutic massage to relax aching muscles.

Movement therapies, such as yoga and tai chi, which can help stretch and strengthen back muscles.

Although the evidence is mixed about whether these therapies are effective, when they do work, it is often when they are combined with the other home remedies for low back pain.

Lower back pain can be a debilitating and painful condition.

Fortunately, staying physically active may be the most effective and cost-efficient way to soothe or prevent it.

Here are 8 simple stretches to relieve lower back pain.

Number 1 is Knee-to-chest.

The knee-to-chest stretch can help lengthen your lower back, relieving tension and pain.

To make this stretch more difficult, simultaneously bring both of your knees to your chest for 15–20 seconds.

Do this 3 times, separated by 30 seconds of rest.

Number 2 is Trunk rotation.

The trunk rotation stretch can help relieve tension in your lower back.

It also works your core muscles, including your abdominals, back muscles, and the muscles around your pelvis.

Perform the trunk rotation stretch by keeping your knees together up toward your chest, gently rolling your knees to each side, and holding the position.

Number 3 is Cat-cow stretch.

The cat-cow stretch is a useful exercise to help increase flexibility and ease tension in your lower back and core muscles.

Perform the cat-cow stretch by arching your back for the cat pose, then letting your pelvis fall
forward for the cow pose.

Number 4 is Pelvic tilt.

The pelvic tilt exercise is a simple yet effective way to release tight back muscles and maintain their flexibility.

Flatten your back against the floor by tightening your abdominal muscles and tilting your pelvis
toward the ceiling.

Number 5 is Seat forward bend.

Tight hamstrings, the muscles located at the back of your thighs, are thought to be a common contributor to lower back pain and injuries.

While seated on the floor with your legs extended, hook a towel around the bottom of your heels and use it to pull yourself forward and stretch your hamstring and lower back muscles.

Number 6 is Flexion rotation.

The flexion rotation exercise helps stretch your lower back and buttocks.

With your leg bent and foot hooked around your other knee, slowly rotate your upper body backwards by touching your shoulder blade to the floor until you feel a mild stretch in your lower back.

Number 7 is Supported bridge.

Use a foam roller or firm cushion to perform the supported bridge.

It helps decompress your lower back through supported elevation.

After positioning a foam roller or firm pillow underneath your hips, relax your entire body.

And finally number 8 is Belly flops.

Similarly to the supported bridge exercise, the belly flop exercise uses a rolled towel to decompress your lower back through supported elevation.

Lie front-side down on a rolled-up towel or blanket that’s positioned under your hip bones and relax your entire body.

Lower back pain is among the leading causes of pain in the US, with research showing that at least 25% of US adults reported experiencing lower back pain over three months.

While the condition is more common among adults, children and adolescents can also develop lower back pain.

Some of the common causes of back pain include muscle strain, accidents, and arthritis, to name a few.

Other factors that can increase the risk of developing lower back pain include fitness level, age, gender, weight gain, genetics, and job-related factors.

If you are experiencing back pain, there are several effective home remedies that you can try to manage the pain.

These include getting enough sleep, doing enough exercise, using heat and cold therapy, applying pain-relief cream, managing stress levels, avoiding being in the same position for too long, and mindful meditation.

Home remedies to heal lower back pain.

If left untreated for long, lower back issues can cause chronic pain in the back muscles and spine and even lead to permanent disabilities.

Fortunately, several natural and simple home remedies can relieve lower back pain.

Number 1 is Get enough sleep.

While pain can make it difficult to sleep, not getting enough sleep can trigger or worsen back pain.

Getting adequate sleep helps your body rest and relax.

The body also heals and restores damaged areas during sleep.

According to a CDC report, adults need between 7 to 8 hours of sleep every day.

If you have sleep problems, you probably need to address those alongside your lower back pain.

You can treat sleep issues by changing your lifestyle, practicing good sleep hygiene, and taking medication, among other things.

Number 2 is Get enough exercises.

Certain exercises such as tai chi and yoga can help ease lower back pain and strengthen muscles in your legs and core, leading to reduced lower back pain.

Additionally, exercise increases blood flow to parts of the lower back, which reduces stiffness.

There are several simple exercises that can help relieve back pain.

These include bridges, knee-to-chest stretches, lower back rotational stretches, draw-in maneuvers, pelvic tilts, and cat stretches.

You have to be selective and only perform exercises that won’t cause further pain and injury to your lower back.

You may need to work with a healthcare professional, such as a physiotherapist, to determine the right exercise for your back pain, depending on the cause and severity.

Number 3 is Use heat and cold therapy.

Heat and cold therapy effectively relieve back pain, both on its own or with other treatments.

You can apply ice packs immediately after an injury to reduce tissue damage, inflammation, and pain.

The numbing effect relieves intense pain.

Ice therapy increases blood flow to the painful area, which speeds up the healing process.

Applying heat along your back may also help relax stiff or achy muscles.

Number 4 is Use pain-relief cream.

There is a wide variety of pain-relief creams available in stores and pharmacies.

Many pain-relief creams have capsaicin as an ingredient.

This compound is found in hot pepper and is a good back pain reliever.

Other types of pain-relief creams have menthol, which helps soothe the affected area and blocks pain receptors in the body.

You need to use menthol in recommended quantities as too much of it can increase your pain sensitivity, a condition that can affect your nervous system.

Number 5 is Manage stress levels.

During stressful moments, cortisol and adrenaline are released and cause tightening of the muscles in your neck, shoulders, and down the spine.

Over time, tightening or tension in these areas can lead to lower back pain. Strategies to manage stress include mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, and yoga.

Number 6 is Practice good posture.

One of the major triggers of lower back pain is poor posture.

Poor posture can weaken the tissues in your lower back, which results in the discs and joints being pushed beyond their limits and causing pain.

Maintaining good sitting, sleeping, and standing posture can spread weight evenly across your spine and reduce pressure on the spinal discs.

To strengthen your back muscles and joints, you can practice exercises like bridges, cat stretches, and pelvic tilts.

Number 7 is Practice mindful meditation.

Meditation helps the body release endorphins or feel-good hormones.

Endorphins act as natural pain relievers and help stabilize your pain levels.

Meditate for at least 5 to 10 minutes every day in a quiet, dark room.

Try meditating in the morning before you leave your bed or in the evening before you fall asleep.

And finally number 8 is Engage your brain.

How the brain interprets pain signals has a big impact on how you feel pain.

You can train your brain to ignore or reduce some pain signals with techniques like cognitive behavioral therapy.

You can also practice mindful pain management through controlled meditation, healthy eating, and avoiding stressful situations.

Focus your mind on things that destruct you from negativity and stress, and practice slow and steady breathing to minimize the pain.
