Assessing hip pain in dancers and ice skaters requires us to look at the body as a whole. Why is the hip pinching in a spiral or an arabesque?

In this particular case it had much more to do with her lack of ankle stability than the actual hip itself. Sure, her deep hip needs attention and this will be addressed but this first stage will be tackling the issue from the ground up.

If her foundational strength in the foot and ankle is poor, she is never going to be able to produce the type of spiral she wants as that link in the chain is faulty. ⛸️

As dancers we all focus on our turn out which is hip external rotation but our hips need balance and we also need to work on our hip internal rotation!

This can help
🩰 improve our turn out (seems weird but try it)
🩰 relieve the need to pop your hips
🩰get that feeling of stretch that you may not get with stretches in turn out

Here are a few exercises to try to work on hip internal rotation.
