CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF MY MUM.
Celebrating the remarkable life of my mum Mrs. Indra Alahakoon who passed away last week, a woman whose warmth, wisdom, compassion and quiet strength touched every person she met.
Her sense of wonder, her childlike curiosity and delight in every experience remained with her throughout her life. Life, of course, brought both joys and challenges, but with every experience, she bloomed. From each difficulty, she drew strength and resilience.
She was an exceptional loving mum to her 4 children, supporting, guiding, providing and most of all inspiring them. As a mother, she gave us not only life but courage, resilience, and unconditional love. She guided us gently, never forcefully, with wisdom, patience, and understanding. She was a constant presence through every milestone, every celebration, every challenge. She was always our best fan, there was nothing she believed we couldn’t do.
Mum life was one of compassion and dedication to others. She was not only our mother but a guiding light to her extended family, her colleagues, her students, and countless others whose lives she touched. As a teacher and school principal she led with compassion, integrity, and dedication. Her influence shaped generations of students and teachers who remember her not only for her leadership, but for her kindness and grace.
And of course, she showed by example that a woman can have it all-a happy marriage, children, strong family connections, successful carrier and charitable work.
Beyond her professional life, mum’s generosity reached into the community, from individual donations for people in need, to sponsoring school children, ongoing care of people who worked for her long after they have left, to cancer hospitals and orphanages, to homes for the elderly and whole schools she has sponsored over the years. She had a boundless capacity to see the needs and gave unreservedly to people in need.
We let you go with peace in our hearts, knowing that yours was a life beautifully lived - full of love, purpose, and grace. We are forever grateful to have been your family.
