Animal-assisted therapy works best when it’s real – and George is as real as they come!

George isn’t in the therapy room to impress you with tricks or perfect obedience.

He’s there for pats, cuddles, and to play and engage with clients (and with me). Sometimes he needs a little time to get to know people and build a trusting bond – just like people do!

Animal-assisted therapy can help reduce stress, lift mood, and make it easier to open up… sometimes with a wag, and sometimes with a cautious sniff first.

The discomfort I’m experiencing with the pushup challenge is trivial compared with the pain and anguish of those affected by mental illness and su***de. A great cause and a bit of a winter activity boost. 💪

Animal Assisted Therapy doesn’t always look like much. Sometimes it’s just George snuggling in and being present.

But moments like this can have a real impact.

Research shows that time with animals can lower cortisol (our stress hormone), ease anxiety, and increase feelings of connection and calm.

For many clients, these small, grounding moments become a meaningful part of the therapy process. 🐾💛

Self-care involves cultivating a lifestyle that aligns with my interests and needs, and reinforces my sense of identity. It does not involve relying on temporary solutions to maintain an unworkable or unsustainable lifestyle. Rather, it involves striking a balance between calming and uplifting strategies to effectively regulate my nervous system and promote overall well-being. Connecting with nature is a vital component of my self-care.
