Teacup Speech Pathology wishes everyone participating in National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children's day on the 4th of August a very great day!

August 4th was historically used to communally celebrate the birthdays of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children who were taken from their families at a young age, without knowing their birthday. Children's day is a time for all Australians to show support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander chidren, to celebrate their strengths and culture, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, family and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.

Excerpt from the Newcastle Weekly: The Belmont Neighbourhood Centre (359 Pacific HWY, Belmong North) will play host to the Australian Hearing Buss which will roll into town on Wednesday 16 November from 9am to 3pm, to offer free hearing tests to residents. Phone 49470031 to book. Given that any and every Speech Pathologist requires a hearing test prior to assessment this sounds like a great opportunity to get a head start on that process, for free!

By now most teachers will have become familiar with the children in their classroom, noticed their likes and dislikes, their personalities and names, what they may have also noticed is that some children don't listen as well as others, are slower at picking up the homework, are disruptive in the classroom, and find it difficult to make friends.
Your teachers can be your best source of information. Ask them how your child is performing today
