This sounds easy, it's actually one of the hardest things you will ever do! But it will change your life for the better if you are brave enough to try 😍

Ouch, do you feel this one deeply?

"I'm okay", "I'm fine", even "I'm good", can be effective covers for the way we are REALLY feeling.

After all, how often do we ask "how are you?" without really listening (or even stopping for) the answer.

I wonder what would happen if we stared asking those questions with purpose and an intention to REALLY hear.

Ahh, this is one of the most confronting realisations we can have as parents!

Often it takes a lot of self reflection and honesty to accept this truth.

Our children (and those we come into contact with), came into our lives for a reason, many get curious about what that reason might be.

I've had SO many conversations lately with parents who feel guilty for not being able to connect with their children's emotional experiences.

When we are raised to shut it down, not let it be seen and be 'fine'; our body learns that feeling those feelings isn't safe, so it protects us from them.

To change this we first need to notice. Starting with noticing that we are not connected, then noticing the little bits that come through or observing with curiosity, our children's experiences.

Over time we will start to re-program ourselves to allow more in.

Go gently, you are doing the best you can right now with what you have. Everything changes, this will too.

Had a very enlightening and informative experience with my child in the supermarket.

An unplanned opportunity to observe their needs and transfer the information into what might be helpful in other environments.

I'm so grateful to my lens of curiosity over criticism or protection. It's not always easy, but it is always helpful.

Stimming is, broadly, a misunderstood regulation strategy. If you or your child have a repetitive behaviour / movement or sound that happens unintentionally, it is likely a stim.

The stim is working to soothe, or regulate you. Stims will increase when you are under stress / pressure / demand.

Instead of changing the stim, let's try changing the environment, or at least, getting curious about why it's happening.

As parents we can feel the pressure to have the right solutions and responses for our children's experiences.

This guide from MummyCon is a lovely reminder of how simple is often most helpful.

Are you a father figure to a young man aged 10 - 15?

This event is for you! It's happening in our local Bendigo are.

This age is SO important. So much is changing in the world of our young men and this is a fantastic opportunity to come together, reconnect and realign at a time when it REALLY matters.

Today we kick off our 'Your Parenting Pallett' online Art Therapy group for Parents / Carers. It is being delivered by one of our registered Art Therapists, Alex Lederman.

I am so proud of the 6 humans who have chosen to carve out the time for this (we know this isn't easy and lots of things have to fall into place to find an hour to dedicate to yourself and your parenting).

We'll keep you all posted about our next group.

I'm feeling very excited about today ✨️

As parents we want to help our kids SO badly! We want to save them from all the mistakes we made, we just want them to be HAPPY!

Personally, when I'm finding something really tough or I've had a hard day or I'm upset about something. I want someone to listen to me while I share it. If that person offers me a solution I'll either stop sharing or get frustrated. This also impacts my relationship with that person, a little piece of me questions if I can trust them. Can they hold all parts of me, or do they want me to be different? If it happens repeatedly with the same person eventually I'll stop telling them stuff.

Does that sound familiar?

So why do we think it's different for our kids?

Next time your kids come to you with a problem, see if you can hold in the advice until AFTER they have told you all about it, even repeatedly.

This creates a stronger relationship and trust me, when they are teenagers This will be your superpower.
