Ever notice the fingers automatically curl when you apply pressure to the forearm flexors?

It’s a normal reflex and a really helpful one for massage and bodywork.

Here’s what it tells you:

• The reflex is normal
• You’re on the right muscle
• It shows how tight or reactive the tissue is
• It helps you work with the breath + the nervous system

Have you ever noticed the different tension when they do involuntarily flex??
•Strong and almost jumpy flexion is actually the nervous system i and protecting itself. Slow your pace, lighten pressure, guide the breath.

•Gentle with smooth flexion, your right in the muscle belly with normal tension. The body is receptive and relaxing.

Their body talks, your body talks
We just gotta learn to listen.

I love the saying for therapists, “Listen With Your Hands”
It’s sooo true !

Rest , our growing children, our growing muscles, our brains and nervous system needs still.

Maybe they did have it together in the earlier days…

In the 1950s, every kindergartener knew the ritual: crayons down, lights low, and the soft hum of a record spinning through the air.
Naptime wasn’t a break — it was part of learning.

Teachers dimmed the lights, tiptoed between mats, and whispered, “Close your eyes.”
Kids rested, dreamed, or just stared at sunbeams dancing on the ceiling — learning something we’ve since forgotten: that rest is part of growth.

Then came the tests.
The “readiness.”
The race to get ahead.
By the 1980s, naps were gone. The mats rolled up. The lights stayed on.

Today, five-year-olds spend more time in structured lessons than third-graders did in the 1950s — no pauses, no quiet, no chance to just be.
And we wonder why they’re anxious.

Maybe it’s time we remembered what our teachers once knew:
You don’t grow by running all the time.
You grow in the stillness too.
Even big kids need naptime sometimes.

So if you’re in a season of setbacks…
You’re not behind
You’re not doing it wrong
You’re learning the exact lessons you need for the next level

Give yourself grace.
Give yourself patience.
Give yourself rest.
Your comeback will be louder because you chose to honour your mind, your body, your health and your energy first.
