Golden City Support Services was pleased to welcome Toon Benoot, a visiting academic from Belgium currently undertaking research with the Living with Disability Research Centre at La Trobe University.

Toon’s work in Australia focuses on the images of the future embedded within the NDIS, examining how policy, practice, and service delivery shape the rights, opportunities and everyday lives of people with disability.

As part of his research program, Toon is connecting with policymakers, frontline practitioners, and service leaders across the country.

During his time with us, Toon spent two days shadowing our CEO Natasha Williams to observe how Person‑Centred Active Support (PCAS) is delivered at GCSS across the region. The visit offered a valuable opportunity to exchange perspectives on disability support systems and to reflect on the ongoing effort required to build inclusive, rights‑focused supports, both in Australia and internationally.

Toon will also be sharing insights about the Belgian individualised support system for people with intellectual disabilities through upcoming sessions facilitated by the Living with Disability Research Centre.

We look forward to continuing these conversations and strengthening connections between practice, research, and international perspectives.

We thank Toon for spending time with our team and for contributing to a rich dialogue about what best‑practice disability support looks like, now and into the future.

It’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week, and we’re taking a moment to appreciate all the different ways people think and experience the world.

We see this every day — there’s no single “normal” way to learn, communicate or make sense of things. Everyone brings their own strengths, quirks and ways of doing life, and that’s what makes our community interesting and creative.

This week is a good reminder to pause, listen and keep an open mind. Neurodivergent people shouldn’t have to fit into boxes that were never made for them. When we make space for different ways of thinking, everyone wins.

Here’s to celebrating real people, real experiences and the value of showing up exactly as you are. 👏

🧡 Harmony Week 2026 🧡

Harmony Week is a reminder of the incredible strength that comes from a community where everyone feels they belong. Every day, we see the richness that different cultures, stories, and perspectives bring to the lives of the people we support, and to all of us.

This week, we celebrate respect, connection, and inclusion. Thank you to our GCSS community for making space where everyone is valued and welcomed. 🧡✨

International Women’s Day reminds us of something simple but powerful: when we give, we all gain.

This year’s theme, , hits home for us. Real change doesn’t come from grand gestures, it's built from the everyday things we choose to share.

Knowledge. Encouragement. Opportunities. A moment to listen. A platform to be seen. Time we don’t feel like we have, but give anyway.
Giving isn’t losing. It’s multiplying.

When women thrive, whole communities rise with them.

So today we’re reflecting on what we can give, individually and together, to help build a world where equality isn’t something we talk about once a year, but something we actively shape.

What will you give to gain gender equality?

🌟 Supporting Community at the CLRS 18th Annual Fundraiser 🌟

Last night, GCSS was proud to attend the Community Living & Respite Services Inc. (CLRS) 18th Annual Fundraiser in Moama.

Our CEO Natasha Williams, CFO Andrew Chittenden, and Marketing & Business Development Manager Beau M. were warmly welcomed by CLRS CEO Leah Taaffe and Director of Operations Lauren Davy.

We also enjoyed the evening alongside Janette Martin, CEO of , and were pleased to see GCSS Board Member Fiona Corrigan among the attendees, highlighting the strong connections across our local sector.

Events like this remind us just how vital community support, sponsorships, and donations are in helping not‑for‑profit organisations continue delivering meaningful services.

CLRS put on a fantastic night celebrating the impact that collaborative, community‑driven support can achieve. Also, great to hear about all the exciting advances in tech, Ai and accessibility with the amazing Dr Jordan Nguyen.

A big congratulations to the CLRS team for hosting such a successful event and thank you for the opportunity to be part of it.
