Meet our Art Therapist, Anna.

Our incredible Art Therapist, Anna has capacity for new clients in clinic, and is going to be leading our new in clinic 8 week program for teens aged 13-17 starting next week.

* What is your favourite way to relax and de-stress?

Connecting with friends and family always makes me feel so much more enlivened and grounded in the world. Artmaking is also a go to, finding the flow in creativity helps regulate my nervous system, loose myself in the creative process, reflect on things that may be baffling, or just find beauty in the process and the materials. Clay is my go to medium, but I can find a creative purpose for most things.

* Inspiring quote, film or book?

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you! - Dr. Seuss

* What is your favourite approach to therapy and why?

I love the embodied approach of creativity for healing. Being creative is an ancient and very human practice, therapeutic art making is a non-verbal approach that fosters safe connections with self and others, can regulate the nervous system and promotes a sense of curiosity and self-exploration, which allows the person to engage with artmaking and recovery in their own time and at their own pace.

Meet our counselling student, Isobel (Izzy).

Izzy has been on placement with us since July working both in clinic and supporting our group art therapy programs in some of our local schools.

Izzy has capacity to take a limited amount of new clients in clinic, and will be on placement with us until the end of December.

We asked Izzy some questions for everyone to get to know her a little better.

What is your favourite way to relax and de-stress?

You’ll usually find me in the garden with my hands in the soil. There’s something so grounding about connecting with nature, and the joy of watching my plant babies grow does wonders for my wellbeing.

Inspiring quote, film or book?

A Wonderful Life. It’s such a heartwarming reminder that even when life feels overwhelming, the small ways we show up for others and the connections we share truly matter.

What is your favourite approach to therapy and why?

Person-Centred Therapy. I believe everyone has their own inner wisdom, and I love creating a safe space where people can just be themselves, explore what’s going on for them, and start to understand themselves in new ways.

Our cosy Castlemaine space.

Let's talk about making therapy spaces your own.

At Care For Your Mind we know that in order to heal you need to feel comfortable and safe.

How do you need the room to be? This is your time, you have full permission to set it up how you need it to be.

Shoes off? Lights dimmed? Sky light closed?

Do you want a blanket, or a cushion, or something to fidget with?

Do you need to be able to look outside? Or to see the door back to the waiting room?

This is your space. Please take the time to settle in.

Understanding the distinctions between psychologists and social workers can help you choose the right professional for your needs.

While both offer valuable support, psychologists tend to focus on mental health assessment and treatment, whereas social workers provide a broader range of services, including therapy and connection to community resources.

If you're unsure which professional aligns with your needs, consider reaching out to discuss your situation and explore the best fit for you.
