This year NP week marks a special milestone, 25 years of Nurse Practitioner care in Australia! Did you know Kelly is one of Australia’s first Plastic Surgery Nurse Practitioners?!
What is a Nurse practitioner?
Nurse practitioners are advanced practice Registered Nurses. They can provide prescriptions and have access to PBS medicines. They can also provide patient rebates through Medicare if you’re eligible.
Depending on previous experience and qualifications NP studies can take anywhere up to 2-6 years to complete and in Kelly’s case 5000 hours of documented advanced practice before endorsement!
Now, a little bit about Kel.
Not only is Kelly extremely passionate and professional she also has 3 degrees.. Wow! She holds these degrees from La Trobe University, Victoria University and a Masters degree from University of Melbourne.
Kelly was on the panel of the Peter MacCallum Institute Early Melanoma advisory group and helped to introduce a patient pathway for newly diagnosed Melanoma patients. Kelly was also employed by Safer Care Victoria as a Nurse Practitioner and was involved with the establishment of a Specialist Dermatology skin clinic at Bendigo Health.
Kelly spent 23 years in the industry before creating her own brand “Skinworkx” she has been fortunate enough to be influenced and educated by renowned Plastic Surgeons and Dermatologists.
