The Osteo Team’s very own Dr Jack has taken on The Long Run to support the 1 in 5 men in Australia who will be diagnosed with prostate cancer.

He has committed to conquering 72 kilometres this September to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia (PCFA). He’s also nearly reached the halfway mark.

Jack would love for you to support him with this challenge and make a donation to PCFA. Every dollar will support men and their families impacted by prostate cancer and motivate Jack to smash his 72km target.

You can make a donation on his fundraising page here: https://www.thelongrun.org.au/s/9173/9959/e

Thank you to anyone that donates!

PS. Your donation to Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia is tax deductible and you'll receive a receipt via email.

Help love go the distance and support Aussie men and families living with prostate cancer. Register for The Long Run or donate today!

Such an important conversation to have.

1 in 5 Australians are currently dealing with a mental health disorder and 2 in 5 have struggled with mental health during their lifetime.

The signs of these conditions aren’t always obvious so it is important we have (and normalise) these conversations with those around us.

Today our team are sharing cupcakes 🧁 and coffee ☕️ to help kickstart some of these discussions.

Check in with your loved ones and coworkers and ask “are you okay?”

Our team wishes all dads a Happy Fathers Day! 🎉

Meet our newest team member, Dr Jayden Burke!

Jayden completed his internship with us earlier this year and will be joining us full time from next week, Monday to Friday.

Jayden grew up right here in Bendigo. He currently plays football for Golden Square Football and Netball Club so when he's not at work kicking goals with his patients he's kicking goals for his club.

Due to his sporting background Jayden has a keen interest in treating exercise and sports based injuries. He also knows that the best recovery from these injuries involves prescribing the right rehabilitation exercises early and throughout a patient's healing process in order to get them back moving pain free as quickly as possible.

When Jayden's not at work he enjoys playing guitar and hanging out with his mates

To secure an appointment with Jayden visit our website www.theosteoteam.com or call us (03) 5444 0012

We have had a face lift! 🌳🌳

Just over a year ago we moved into our historic clinic on View street, that has a rich medical history of its own. Unfortunately the garden out the front never quite matched what the building deserved - but not anymore! After a weekend of sweat, and a whole heap of planting, our front yard is now looking gorgeous! Come check it out in the next few weeks when you pop in to see one of our equally impressive practitioners 😉

We often get asked this question ⬆️

There are a lot more similarities than differences between osteopathy and myotherapy. Which is why they work so well together!

You’ll find both professions use a lot of the same techniques to treat your presenting complaint. Where they differ are the length of training they have undertaken with osteopaths having additional medical diagnostic skills and techniques such as joint cracking. Myotherapists take a heavier focus on the muscles and combine remedial massage techniques with other muscle releases such as trigger point therapy, dry needling and myofascial cupping.

Both our osteopaths and myotherapists are here to help with your pain and give you the tools you require to live a more pain free and active lifestyle!

Dry needling. What is it? How can it help? ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Dry needling is a technique where we insert very fine filament sterile needles (acupuncture needle) into tissues,  in order to stimulate a healing effect. The reason it is called “dry” needling is due to the fact that no liquid or medication is being injected into the tissues, just the needle itself.

Depending on the technique used with the needles and the points chosen to work on, dry needling may have the following effects:
- relax muscle spasm and myofascial trigger points (knots in the muscle) to improve function
- assist with pain relief
- reduce inflammation
- improve local immune / healing responses

Dry needling differs from acupuncture which is a technique of traditional Chinese medicine that dates back thousands of years. Acupuncturists use the same needles on specific points to restore the flow of energy through channels (meridians) in the body in order to restore or maintain health.

We have several practitioners who have undertaken additional training to safely and effectively use dry needles. If you have any sore, or tight muscles, be sure to ask at your next appointment if dry needling may help!

5 Interesting Facts about Shoulders 💪

1. The shoulder has no socket.

Unlike the hip which has a deep socket, the ball of your humerus (upper arm bone) moves against a flat surface on your scapular (shoulder blade) and is held in place by muscles ligaments and tendons. This gives the shoulder freedom to move a lot further than the hip.

2. The shoulder is more dependent on muscles than any other joint in your body.

Due to the shoulders lack of a bony socket and the freedom of movement it requires, control and stability of the shoulder is achieved through muscles that attach to it and hold it in place.

3. The most common injury to shoulder is a rotator cuff injury.

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that act as a stabiliser for the shoulder. The activation of these muscles allow you to lift your and reach overhead. When injured reaching overhead our our with your arms can become painful.

4. Shoulder pain can be caused by injury or aging.

Shoulder injuries can be common in sporting populations, especially in contact sports due to the higher risk of injury and abnormal forces being applied to the shoulder. However, with ageing and wear and tear the shoulder can develop arthritic changes and the muscles of the shoulder can also become worn, leading to injuries and pain occurring.

5. Shoulder exercises can either help or hurt your shoulder.

Engaging in exercise is the best way to keep the shoulders strong, healthy and prevent injury. However, the incorrect choice of exercises, technique and volume of training can increase the risk of shoulder injuries.
