One of my favourite things to see in clinic is when a childâs skin suddenly starts improving⌠and the answer turns out to be in the gut.
Many parents are surprised to learn that the bacteria living in our childrenâs digestive systems play a big role in things like:
⢠eczema
⢠food reactions
⢠immune balance
⢠even mood and behaviour - I have personal experience with this one!
When certain bacteria become a little too dominant, they can irritate the gut lining and send âinflammatory signalsâ through the body. For some kids, this shows up on the skin.
One of the beautiful natural tools we sometimes use in clinic is pomegranate as a herbal liquid.
Pomegranate is incredibly rich in plant compounds called polyphenols, which help to gently regulate the gut microbiome. Rather than wiping out bacteria, these compounds help calm down some of the more inflammatory microbes and support the growth of the beneficial ones.
When the gut environment settles, something amazing often happensâŚ
The immune system becomes calmer.
And that can mean:
⨠clearer skin
⨠better tolerance to foods
⨠a happier, more balanced little body, which is what we want to see!
I love working with the gut because when we support it properly, childrenâs bodies often do the rest of the healing themselves.
Every child is different, of course, but the gut is always one of the first places I look when a little one is struggling.
Because when the gut is happy, so many other things start to improve too.
If youâve got a child dealing with eczema, food reactions, or tummy troubles, youâre not alone. Gut health plays a bigger role than most parents realise.
