If you’re reading this and thinking, “I try, but I fail a lot” It’s normal. 🫶🏼

You can know exactly what to say... and still lose your cool, shutdown, or regret things. It’s not because you don’t care—it’s your nervous system in survival mode.

If you weren’t raised with emotional safety, it makes sense that it’s tough to offer it. But it’s something you can learn, and you can break the cycle. You can be the safe space your child needs. ✨❤️‍🩹

🌟 The “One Good Thing” Game 🌟

At dinner, take turns naming one good thing that happened that day.

It could be small; a funny moment, a new skill, a time with a friend, a snack you loved, or a bit of sunshine.

This simple habit trains the brain to look for positives and gently rewires it toward gratitude.🌈

When practiced regularly, it teaches kids that joy can be found, and created, every single day.

Try it tonight, you might be surprised how much joy one small reflection brings. 🤗

📱Should kids have smartphones? Research says not too soon.

Growing brains need time to develop — especially the prefrontal cortex, which controls focus, impulse regulation, and emotional balance. 💡

Let’s protect their mental health by giving them more time to grow offline. 🌱

☀️ Why breastfed babies need Vitamin D supplements

As paediatricians, we love that breast milk gives babies almost everything they need — except one important nutrient: Vitamin D.

🍼 Breast milk naturally contains very little Vitamin D, and babies aren’t exposed to enough sunlight to make their own (especially with safe sun protection).

💛 Vitamin D is essential for:
• Healthy bone and teeth development
• Strong immune function
• Preventing rickets (soft bones)

👶 That’s why we recommend daily Vitamin D drops (400 IU) for all exclusively breastfed infants from birth — it’s an easy way to keep their bones strong and growing.

Always chat with your paediatrician or GP for the right supplement and dose for your

🌿 Paediatrics, Peaks & Pedals – Dr Naomi Chellew

Paediatrics teaches you endurance, empathy, and the joy of small milestones — not so different from the lessons learned on the trail.

From hiking Mont Blanc to Tasmania’s breathtaking Three Capes Track, and cycling the shores of Lake Constance , with her family & friends, these adventures remind us that growth takes courage, persistence, and curiosity — whether it’s a child learning to walk or a doctor chasing the next summit.

Adventure reminds us that growth — in children and in life — is always worth the climb.

✨ Responding to your child’s behaviour can feel overwhelming at times — but remember, children aren’t “bad kids,” they’re good kids having a hard time.

This system helps parents know how to respond depending on whether behaviour is desirable or undesirable, and whether your child is highly regulated or struggling to regulate:

🔹 Teach – guide towards better choices when calm
🔹 Support – validate feelings and hold safe boundaries
🔹 Enjoy – give frequent praise for positive behaviour
🔹 Let Go – pick your battles and connect with empathy

By meeting children with connection first, we help them build security, resilience, and a positive sense of self. 💙

📢 Important Update for Families

There is currently a nationwide shortage of Ritalin LA and Concerta due to manufacturing issues. This shortage is expected to continue into next year.

To help streamline care during this time:
✔️ Please check with multiple local pharmacies to see what medications and dosages are available before contacting our clinic.
✔️ This will help avoid delays and ensure your paediatrician can provide the best alternative option for your child.

We understand how stressful this may be and appreciate your patience and support as we work together to manage these challenges. 💙

✨ In a world that feels so busy and uncertain, it’s important to pause and remember what truly matters. Our little ones are not interruptions — they are the heart of it all. Every smile, every question, every cuddle is shaping the future. 💛

Let’s celebrate the privilege of nurturing, guiding, and growing alongside them — because children aren’t a distraction from life’s work… they are the most important work. 🌍💫
