CARMELLA sang as a soloist in the Latin Church choir from the age of 7. Surrounded by sacred music from an early age – her Grandfather who chanted in Aramaic, taught her beautiful chants as a young child. These early years soaking up sacred music planted the seed that would continue to grow throughout her life. Having an intensive career as a singer on the pop charts in the early nineties, Carmella opened for artists as diverse as the likes of Eartha Kitt, Daryl Braithwaite and Jenny Morris.
‘A soaring celebration of contemporary world Music’ – Who Weekly
DISSATISFIED with the machinations of the pop music industry, Carmella digressed to the study of classical singing, and with a promising career as a classical singer, she fell deeply in love with plainsong, renaissance, European art song and Church Music, it was here that she truly discovered the purity of music and this study continued for 10 years. All the while, her deep and committed spiritual practice of meditation and yoga maintained her soul AND her singing voice . . . after completing her studies Carmella dived into world music from Celtic to African and Kowali and from there her yoga and music worlds merged, this time through the practise of bhakti, call and response chanting in Sanskrit. Initiated into the Vaishnava line, this practise is the divine medicine , or the Yuga Dharma for our age. Carmella has for the past 20 years travelled the world , particularly visiting China's bustling yoga scene for the past decade, singing and facilitating singing groups, sound meditation workshops, kirtans and sacred music choirs. Passionate about the use of group singing as a healing force, as a vehicle for transformation, and as a link to the Divine. She works to combine yogic philosophy, creation spirituality wisdom, movement and meditation with liberating vocal techniques, to assist people of all walks of life to access their true powerful, beautiful and Divine voice.
