I’m with the best & brightest academics in Nutrition at the Nutrition Society of Australia’s annual conference in Sydney for the next few days. The keynote speaker Prof David Raubenheimer, is the Leonard Ullman Chair in Nutritional Ecology at USyd. He shared his research on Protein Leverage. His research on how a range of animals, including chimps in Kigali choose protein, carbs & fat in the wild (the ecology part of his research) and how this is reflected in humans. When a human selects 2% less protein they will consume 18% more carb & fat, that’s Protein Leverage. Increasing Ultra Processed Food (UPF) in diet will reduce Protein, increase energy (calories).
