I love liquid herbal tinctures! They are amazing!
Especially during times of stress. When our nervous system is on fight or flight (SNS- sympathetic nervous system dominance). Yes I’m looking at you COVID!
We release chemicals like adrenaline and cortisol.
Great when we are trying to get away from a Sabre tooth tiger 🐅, not so great when we are trying to live our daily lives.
Prolonged exposure to adrenaline and cortisol can affect our bodies in so many ways:
🍃Disrupt our digestive system- bloating, cramping, pain, frequency,
🍃Lower immunity- recurrent colds, thrush, cold sores, Swollen lymph nodes. Allergies and hay fever going haywire.
🍃Dysregulate the circadian rhythm- sleep is all out of whack
🍃Impact reproductive hormones- this is a big one ladies
Like increasing symptoms of PMS, acne, shorter cycles, no cycles, infertility, heavier flow, more pain.
🍃Blood sugar dysregulation- the cravings for carbs, carbs and more carbs with a side of chocolate 🍫
🍃Weight gain- even if you are your doing all the right things the scales aren’t shifting the way you want
🍃Poor tissue integrity, increase risk for scarring and stretch marks
🍃Increase inflammation- increase sensitivity to pain, aching joints, headaches, worsening of pre existing conditions that have an inflammatory component like eczema.
🍃Poor energy- prolonged exposure to stress not only chews through the cofactors to the energy pathways of our bodies like Krebs, yes you B vitamins. It also affects our adrenals ability to mount a response, less adrenaline less cortisol. Less ability to respond to it.
Coffee ☕️ doesn’t touch the sides?
You can even sleep after a cup? Feeling like you have been hit by a Mack truck in the am?
You might be here GAS- general adaption syndrome.
What can you do?
Lots!
It’s time to nourish the PNS- parasympathetic nervous system.
The rest and digest.
Meditation, baths, yoga. All cultivate the Rest and digest nervous system.
Sometimes we need more help getting back in balance, like supplying some nutritional cofactors and taking a herbal tincture, help to even make the first positive steps to change.
