Quiet Mind Meditation

Quiet Mind Meditation Sarah is a meditation teacher based in Melbourne (Australia) and Founder of Quiet Mind Meditation (2009) and The Meditation Box (2022) Life is busy. And noisy.

After a long and challenging corporate career that came to a crossroad following the Global Financial Crisis .. Sarah took herself off to a meditation retreat and realised it was time to share her passion for meditation (her secret weapon in life) through Quiet Mind Meditation. Having meditated for more than 20+ years, Sarah is well aware of the challenges that life can present, and is eternally grateful that she learnt to meditate as a teenager .. and continued to meditate through all the ups and downs and meanderings. We are constantly bombarded with information .. words, thoughts, sights, sounds, smells .. that cause us to live in a state of perpetual edginess with no time to processes everything. But when we live on 'fast-forward' we miss the moments we have right now, and this can leave us with a residue of something missing. We disconnect from life and our sense of self. The ability to be both extremely relaxed physically and mentally, while remaining alert and awake, is one way to describe the meditative state. Research clearly shows that a regular meditation practice teaches us how to self manage our stress, which positively influences our inner biochemistry; improving our physical and emotional health, providing more restful sleep and improved energy levels alongside increased ability to cultivate positive emotions and a deeper understanding of who we are in our quietest moments.

Day 31 – The Wisdom of Discomfort

(inside our Exploring Meditation course)

Meditation isn’t always calm and serene.

Sometimes, aches, tightness, or tension show up - louder in the stillness than in the busy rush of life.

But here’s the gift: discomfort in meditation is a chance to practice something we all need in life - the ability to quietly notice, observe, and sit with what’s uncomfortable without judgment.

When we meet mild pain with curiosity … “Oh hello, shoulder ache” … and pay attention to our reaction rather than the sensation itself, we build insight and resilience.

Over time, this practice can help us manage discomfort in daily life too, teaching us that while pain may be inevitable, suffering is optional.

Inside our Exploring Meditation course, today’s guided meditation gives us an opportunity to explore mild discomfort in the body, inviting awareness, curiosity, and kindness … and perhaps discovering a new way to relate to those tight spots in both body and mind.

✨ Everything changes and flows. Even discomfort.

Many people skip meditation because they think they need to stop thinking!

The truth?

That’s impossible … and trying only makes thoughts LOUDER.

Ancient practices offer us a range of simple antidotes: including from the Vipassana tradition where we are advised that rather than fighting our mind, we might notice our thoughts, give them a friendly nod, and let them pass.

Out lesson tomorrow, inside our Exploring Meditation course, is thus sweet reminder … the mind doesn’t need silencing, it needs witnessing.

Even in chaos, like a busy day or a screaming child, acknowledging your thoughts can create surprising ease.

Curious?

Sometimes the gentlest way to calm your mind is to say hello to it first. 💛

Melbourne in November.

The city hums with energy and events. The days are growing longer, gardens are bursting into bloom, and afternoons roll into cool evenings. The air carries that unmistakable sense of anticipation that arrives just before summer.

It’s a month that feels both festive and full of potential.

There is also a lot to get done before the end of year and Christmas celebrations, and the long awaited summer break. 🏝️

So, I am welcoming November with a list to keep me accountable and on track - and hopefully not stressed to suddenly find it is Christmas!

Things I will do this November:

+ Finish our Christmas Gift Guide - I want to share some lovely books and other meditation gifts for your favourite people (or you!) - stay tuned

+ I’ve been working on a new look for our Meditation Intention Bracelets and excited to see the collection life again this season

+ I can tick off the 2026 Exploring Meditation course dates which are now LIVE - read more on the Blog. Some other classes to be announced soon.

+ A bittersweet farewell coming up for our current group of Exploring Meditation participants who have to be congratulated for completing 40-days of meditation and just being a great group 🙏🏼

+ I am super excited to be participating in the Forest Rocks Qigong - 7 Day Qi Gong Challenge - you can watch me on stories - and JOIN ME - link in my bio

+ And .. I’m hopeful that our first Summer swim is not far away - it’s always magic. My dog (and I) are keen - bring on the warm weather!

What about you - how is your November looking?

Ever noticed how a recipe only comes alive when you add a little of you?

It’s the same with meditation.

Our practice (and the instructions that I share) may offer the steps … a gentle sequence to guide you inward …

but it is your presence that transforms the practice into something soulful.

That’s where the magic begins. ✨

NEXT Exploring Meditation our 40-day course - starts 5th January 2026

Explore a range of soulful “recipes” to find what best suits YOU!

“Inhale, I know I am breathing in.
Exhale, I know I am breathing out”

This is our meditation practice today – Day 18 of the Exploring Meditation course.

I share a guided practice inspired by the meditations of Thich Nhat Hanh .. using silent noting of phrases, similar to a mantra, as our anchor or point of focus.

The world of mantra starts next week .. but this week we continue with our Breath Awareness practices + this delightful introduction to the power of the silent repetition of potent words.

As the season of Spring enters its final month, and we find ourselves midway through the current Spring Exploring Meditation course, I’ve been reflecting on the rhythm of our practice and the seasons that guide it.

Today, I finalised the 2026 Exploring Meditation calendar - and it’s now live on the Quiet Mind Meditation blog.

There are four course dates, based on the seasons, to help you begin (or begin again) your meditation journey.

And let’s be clear - It’s always a good time to start a regular meditation practice, and there are some incredible benefits waiting for your health and wellbeing. You simply need to start.

You can find all the 2026 dates, along with a glimpse into the unique energy of each season, now on the blog.

Today we begin Week 3 - Anchoring Awareness with the Breath - inside our Exploring Meditation course.

Last week (Week 2) we explored the body in meditation, trying different techniques to help us tune in with gentle awareness and kindness.

Now, it’s time to befriend our breath … who we often ignore or try to control!

🙏🏼 this id my favourite pathway into meditation.

It’s amazing when you realise that your breath is always with you … moving with you, tending to you.l, influencing how you see and feel in the world. And, by noticing its ebb and flow, its rise and fall, you can find calm, presence, and stability in every moment.

Breath Awareness can be your:

✨ Anchor: your safe harbour, your steady base
✨ Foundational: the heart of your meditation practice

This week, we find and love-on our breath, observing its subtle dance, and letting it guide us to a deeper sense of settledness in mind and body.

✨ NEXT Exploring Meditation Course will be in celebration of a New Year - starting Monday 8th January 2026! - details available soon.

Day 8 - LIVE meditation and Q+A

It’s always so beautiful and heart filling to meet and sit in meditation together.

Thank you everyone.

We are Day 8 of our 40-Day Exploring Meditation course …it’s always precious and sacred to sit and meditate together .. and check in with how each person is ‘travelling’.

This is one opportunity to hear questions or challenges or insights (already!) from everyone’s first 8 days of daily meditation.

This is my little pod where I sit with my cushion and technology … my shawl and a glass of water.

Just sitting and sharing and meditating - a beautiful moment shared.
