Kayla experienced a complex, comminuted, mid-shaft humerus fracture following a tackling incident at footy. She is 2 weeks post humeral nail, which was complicated by a large, benign bone cyst which affected the integrity of her bone.
Her post-op orders consisted of:
- Weight-bearing less than a teacup
- Begin gentle active range of motion
- No active abduction past 30 degrees
- Sling as required for comfort
Here we have begun some gentle passive ranges, soft-tissue work, and early exercises whilst protecting the integrity of the repair to maintain the mobility of her joint while she remains in the sling.
A great reminder that even while not actively moving the arm or completing “strengthening” exercises, it doesn’t mean there’s nothing you can do even in the early stages!
