Tuberous breasts (also called constricted or hypoplastic breasts) are a congenital breast shape difference that usually becomes more noticeable during puberty. Features can include a narrow breast base, a higher breast fold, enlarged ar**la and asymmetry between the breasts.

Tuberous breast correction surgery is highly individual. It may involve releasing constricted tissue and, in some cases, using implants and/or a breast lift to address shape and proportion. The approach used will depend on your anatomy, goals, skin quality and breast tissue.

These clinical photographs show one of Dr Norris’ patients and are provided for general information only. Outcomes, recovery and suitability are different for every person. A consultation with Dr Norris is required to discuss whether tuberous breast surgery may be appropriate for you, as well as the potential risks and alternatives.

Dr Norris performs a (mammoplasty) breast reduction surgery only in a fully accredited hospital. The anaesthetist that Dr Norris works with will give you a general anaesthetic. You can expect the operation to take between three and four hours, depending on how much tissue needs to be removed.

There are a number of (mammoplasty) reduction surgery techniques. Each technique determines where the incisions and subsequent scars will be.

This will most commonly involve restricting your scar to one that encircles the ar**la (periar**lar scar) and one that passes downwards from the ar**la to the fold beneath the breast (vertical scar).

The images shown represent one patient three months after surgery. At this stage, swelling has reduced and scars are beginning to mature.

If you would like personalised advice about whether breast reduction mammoplasty may be appropriate for you, please contact Form & Face to arrange an appointment with Dr Norris.

Tuberous breasts are a congenital difference in breast development that can involve a narrow breast base, a high fold and limited breast volume. The condition and its severity can vary between individuals and between each breast.

Surgery to address tuberous breasts is planned case by case. Techniques may include releasing tight tissue, reshaping the breast, adjusting the fold and ar**la, and in some situations using breast implants and/or a lift. The approach, scar pattern and recovery plan are tailored to the individual after a full assessment of breast shape, skin quality and overall health.

The photos on this tile show one patient six weeks after surgery. At this stage, the breasts are still healing.

If you're wondering whether surgery might be suitable for you, please contact Form & Face to arrange a consultation with Dr Norris for individual assessment and advice.

18/01/2026

Breast reconstruction mammoplasty can include surgery to remove and/or replace breast implants when there are implant-related concerns. These may include capsular contracture (hardening around the implant), rupture or leakage, changes in breast shape or position, asymmetry, rippling, or discomfort. Sometimes patients also seek revision when their preferences or body shape have changed over time.

The surgical plan is highly individual. Depending on your situation, options may involve removing the implant alone, removing both the implant and surrounding capsule, changing the implant pocket or plane, using a different implant, combining revision with a breast lift, or considering alternatives such as fat grafting or going flat.

If you have concerns about existing breast implants or are considering reconstruction or revision, you can contact Form & Face to arrange a consultation with Dr Norris to review your history, imaging and options in detail.

Breast reduction mammoplasty is an operation that removes excess breast tissue and skin, then reshapes the remaining tissue and repositions the nipple–ar**la complex. It is often considered when very large breasts are contributing to physical symptoms or affecting day-to-day comfort.

Some people seek assessment because of issues such as:
- Neck, shoulder or back discomfort related to breast weight
- Grooves from bra straps or difficulty finding supportive garments
- Recurrent skin irritation or rashes beneath the breast fold
- Difficulty with some forms of physical activity

A consultation is needed to determine whether surgery is an appropriate option in each case. If you have any questions or would like to speak to Dr Norris, please contact our clinic.

This image shows one patient 6 months after breast reduction mammoplasty. For this individual, the breasts have had time to settle, but scar appearance can continue to change beyond this point.

People who may be considered for breast reduction surgery:

- Have large, heavy breasts that interfere with daily activities or comfort
- Experience neck, shoulder, back or posture-related problems thought to be related to breast size
- Understand the risks, scars and recovery involved in having surgery
- Are at a stable and generally healthy weight
- Have realistic expectations about what surgery can and cannot achieve

Plans for future pregnancy and breastfeeding should also be discussed, as these can affect timing and decision-making. Final suitability can only be assessed in a consultation with a qualified surgeon.

For individual advice about whether breast reduction may be appropriate for you, please contact Form & Face to arrange a consultation with Dr Norris.

This image shows one example of tuberous breasts surgery (hypoplasia) at six weeks after the procedure. For this patient, early swelling has begun to settle, but breast shape, softness and scar appearance will continue to change over the coming months.

Because tuberous breasts are considered a developmental breast shape difference, some patients may be eligible for a Medicare item number and private health fund contributions toward certain costs. Eligibility depends on clinical assessment and your health insurance policy and cannot be guaranteed.

If you are concerned about tuberous breast shape and would like advice specific to your situation, please contact Form & Face so our team can help arrange a consultation with Dr Norris.

For tuberous breast surgery, there is no single “standard” implant that suits everyone. Instead, the implant is chosen after a detailed assessment of your breast shape, skin quality, chest measurements and any asymmetry.

Implants can differ in surface, shape and profile (how far they project from the chest). Options may include smoother or more textured surfaces, round or teardrop-style shapes, and a range of profiles and sizes. In some cases, two different implant sizes are considered if there is a noticeable difference between the breasts.

At your consultation, Dr Norris will examine your breasts, discuss your goals, and explain which implant options may be suitable for addressing the features of tuberous breasts in your situation.

If you have any questions or would like to book a consultation, please reach out to the friendly team at Form & Face.

29/12/2025

Tuberous breasts are a congenital difference in breast shape, often involving a narrow breast base, a high breast fold and changes in the ar**la or breast volume. These features can vary between individuals and between each breast.

Surgery for tuberous breasts is tailored to the person and may include releasing tight tissue, reshaping the breast, adjusting the fold or ar**la, and sometimes using implants and/or a lift. Procedures are performed in accredited hospitals, and in some cases Medicare item numbers and private health insurance rebates may apply, depending on clinical criteria and your policy. As with all breast surgery, there are risks such as bleeding, infection, changes in sensation, scarring, implant-related issues and the possibility of further surgery.

If you’re considering treatment for tuberous breasts, please contact Form & Face so our team can help you arrange a consultation with Dr Norris to discuss your individual options.

This patient’s images show one example of male breast reduction (gynaecomastia correction) six weeks after surgery. At this stage of recovery, tissues are still healing and some swelling, firmness or changes in sensation can remain. The final appearance continues to evolve over the following months as the chest settles.

Gynaecomastia surgery may involve liposuction, surgical excision of glandular tissue, or a combination of both. The specific approach, scars and recovery plan are tailored to each person’s anatomy, medical history and goals, so outcomes and downtime vary between individuals.

You may wish to discuss how gynaecomastia surgery might relate to your health, body type and lifestyle, including what recovery could involve for you. To explore these points in more detail, you can contact Form & Face to schedule a consultation with Dr Norris for individualised advice.

18/12/2025

Recovery after gynaecomastia correction varies between patients. In the early days, chest movement is limited and a compression garment is usually worn to support healing and reduce swelling.

Some patients can resume light daily activities and desk-based work within about a week, while driving, lifting and upper-body exercise are often delayed for longer. The exact timing depends on your procedure, job demands and how your body recovers, so your plan will be tailored at follow-up appointments with Dr Norris.

For advice specific to your situation and activity level, please contact Form & Face to arrange a consultation with Dr Norris.
