✨ Understanding Body Proportions in Chinese Medicine ✨
Ever wondered how acupuncturists know exactly where to place each point?

It all comes down to a centuries-old system of body proportional measurements known as Cūn (寸).

📜 14th-Century Origins
The concept of body proportional measurement was beautifully illustrated in 14th-century drawings by Hua Boren, showing how the human body can be divided into consistent proportional units.
These illustrations became foundational in mapping the channel pathways we still study today.

📏 What Is 1 Cūn?
Traditionally, 1 cūn = the width of the patient’s middle finger at the knuckle crease.
It’s a relative, anatomical inch — allowing point locations to adjust to each individual.

🧑‍⚕️ Modern Standardization
In the early 20th century, physician Cheng Dan’an (1899–1957) played a major role in modernizing acupuncture education and standardizing cūn measurement techniques.
Thanks to his work, we have clearer, more accurate channel maps and point locations recognized worldwide.
