A SOUND LIFE

A SOUND LIFE Helping people in need build the resilience to cope with adversity through music, yoga and meditation

A Sound Life helps people in need build the resilience required to cope with adversity and stress. We do this by using music, yoga and meditation to reinstate harmony between their hearts and minds. The most vulnerable people in our communities often have the least access to the tools for transformation, resilience, connection and empowerment. We are committed to changing that and to helping them

confidently surf the waves of life and realise they can experience complete joy within their lives. Since 2014, we’ve serviced over 50 facilities, positively impacting over 30,000 people in our community who need it the most. We have over 350 committed ASL volunteers who have delivered over 2,500 free music, yoga and meditation sessions to date. These numbers are a testament to who we are as an organisation, the culture we have created, our ambition and dedication, what we’ve achieved and the way we serve. Our compassionate and committed team of skilled volunteers include musicians, yoga and meditation teachers. These volunteers deliver regular programs to people in health care facilities such as hospitals and disability centres, while also delivering programs to underserved communities such as youth at risk and women's shelters. We’ve witnessed the joy and resilience our tools can deliver time and time again, which is why we are so sure they can make a difference to all lives and why we're energised to do just that.

Gratitude is not just a nice idea. Research is increasingly linking gratitude with better wellbeing, and a Harvard Health Publishing article even explores evidence that it may be associated with longevity.

One of the key findings shared is from a large study of older women, where those with the highest gratitude scores had a modest reduction in mortality risk over the following years. The article is also clear that this was observational research, meaning it cannot prove cause and effect.

What we love most is how practical this is. Gratitude does not require perfect circumstances. It starts with attention.

Try one question tonight:
What was one good thing from today, even a small one?

We’ve shared the full article summary via the link below.

On ANZAC Day, we pause to honour and remember those who gave so much, those who never returned, and the families and communities who carried their legacy forward.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun
and in the morning

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

Did you know stress can show up in the body before we can even name it?

That’s why we love simple regulation tools you can actually use in real life: breath, gentle movement, and music.

No fixing. No forcing. Just small moments of support, over and over again.

Save this post for later, and if it feels helpful, share it with someone you care about. ❤️

This is why music matters so much.

When someone is in hospital, living with disability, navigating mental health, or simply going through a hard season, words are not always available. Sometimes the most powerful form of connection is not a conversation, it’s a song.

At A Sound Life, we see how live music can soften a room, slow the breath, and help people feel less alone. It creates a shared moment where people can exhale, reconnect, and remember their humanity.

If you have a song that has held you through something, share it in the comments. ⭐️

Music Therapy Week is a beautiful reminder of something we see every day.

Music can heal. Not by fixing everything, but by shifting a moment. It can calm a busy nervous system, ease anxiety, soften pain, and help people feel connected again when life feels hard.

In hospitals, aged care, disability and mental health settings, music often reaches places words cannot. A familiar melody can bring comfort. A steady rhythm can bring grounding. A shared song can remind someone they are still themselves, and they are not alone.

To all music therapists, and to everyone using music to support wellbeing with care and skill, thank you. Your work matters. ❤️

✨ Edo’s new release is live on Spotify 🎶

We’re excited to share that our founder Edo has just released a new version of an old favourite, “Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha”, now available on Spotify via Mantrafy.

This mantra is traditionally associated with Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Many people return to it when life feels busy, uncertain, or stuck, as a way to come back to steadiness and begin again.
If you need something grounding today, press play, breathe slowly, and let the repetition do what it does best. Bring your attention to your feet, your breath, and the feeling of being supported.

Search Mantrafy on Spotify and listen to Om Gam Ganapataye Namaha. Save it for your meditation, commute, or evening wind down.

Where do you listen when you need to feel more grounded?

Our Story

We're facing a global health and well-being crisis around the world. - 3,000 Australian's died in 2017 due to su***de - 300 Million people globally live with a mental illness. In Australia, it's 1 in 5 people - 1 Billion people globally live with a disability - $20B spent in corporate absenteeism in Australia each year due to mental health concerns The state of our planet is growing ever-more precarious. We’re on a mission to change that.

A Sound Life is Australia's first well-being charity inspiring people in need to improve their health and well-being with free yoga, music and mediation programs. We service health care facilities (hospitals, aged care, disabilities, mental health) and underserved communities including youth at risk, women's shelters and refugees. Through community and corporate support, more than 200 volunteers have delivered 1,500 programs across 40 facilities serving 22,500 people since 2015. But there's still many more people to serve. Our goal is to inspire the lives of 50,000 through yoga, music and meditation programs by 2020 and we need your help.

In February 2019 we’ll be launching The Sound Life Dome, Sydney’s first for-purpose venue consciously offering an event space for making a difference. A place which makes you feel fiercely creative and wholesome, just by nature of its sacred geometry and thoughtful design.

The dome is a multi-function venue to be utilised by A Sound Life, other charities, community groups, educational institutions and the corporate sector. A venue to host events, conferences, concerts, workshops, private functions, exhibitions, screenings and more. Every event held in the dome will help us deliver more free music, yoga and meditation programs to people in need.
