CAVELETTIS FOR CANINE REHAB

Introducing the use of cavaletti poles is something we use for our canine rehab for a variety of conditions such as post operative TPLO, hip dysplasia and IVDD. Using cavaletti poles can help target core stability, proprioception of all four limbs and active range of motion of the stifle, carpus and elbow joints.

These can be progressed easily by changing the height and distance of the poles - let's watch Bryony nail her cavaletti exercises!

If you think your dog might benefit from rehabilitation like this, come and see us!

DOES YOUR HORSE HAVE A STRONG CORE?

The abdominal muscles in horses play an important role in stabilising the spine and is something we assess in horses with back pain.

By using a 'zipper' motion or stimulating under their belly, their core engages and creates a lifting motion at the spine - hold for 5 seconds and slowly release. Watch Ben! All horses should be able to do this!

Does your horse have sore back? Call us on 5976 1069 or email us at info@mparc.com.au for a Physiotherapy assessment!

SPINAL MOBILITY
Does your dog have a stiff back? Try this exercise at home!
Weaving around cones can help optimise spinal flexibility, balance, strength and control of the hip abductor and adductors.
1. Start with 3-4 cones spread widely apart
2. Using a treat or leash weave your dog around the cones in a gentle 'S' shape
3. To increase difficulty, bring the cones closer together creating a sharper weave

Does your dog have a stiff back? Struggle to do this? Come and see us for a Physiotherapy assessment! https://clientportal.zandahealth.com/clientportal/d5721661-7028-4d17-9b99-5d96e198933d

FRONT LIMB STRENGTHENING

It's time to share another exercise for your dogs!
Push ups! These are great way for both range of motion of the elbow as well as muscle control of the front limb joints.
Start with your dog in a seated position
Usea treat to lure your dog down into the push up position - bend at the elbows not a 'drop'
Return to the starting position and repeat!

Does your dog struggle with front limb issues? Come and see us for a Physiotherapy session!

DON'T ADD EXERCISES, ADD LAYERS!

Looking to optimise strength exercises with your dog?

Rather than adding extra exercises, add complexity to continue to mentally and physically challenge your dog!

Lets take this simple exercise and continue to challenge the hind limbs

EXERCISE:
Front legs up on a step

LAYERS:
Add weight shifting
Add a front leg lift to increase hind limb loading
Add a balance disc/soft surface to challenge balance

Come and see us at ARC for an assessment and lets keep your dog strong 💪💪

STRIDE WALKING

Why is this important?
It is very common for horse owners to want their horse to stand square - which is important to maintain balance. However when a horse stands square it is a 60/40 split of weight bearing from the front to the back.
To ensure we keep loading through the horses hind limb, stride stance and stride walking is one way to achieve this!

Does your horse struggle to do this? Struggling with transitions? It could be a hind limb problem! Book a Physiotherapy assessment with us!

🔹 Rehabilitation Initial Assessments at ARC 🔹

Our Rehabilitation Initial Assessments are a vital first step in creating a tailored plan to support your dog’s mobility, comfort, and long-term wellbeing. Conducted by our rehabilitation specialists, these sessions include a thorough evaluation of joint health, range of motion, veterinary history, client concerns, and activity levels.

These assessments are commonly recommended for dogs requiring support with:
• Sporting or show performance
• Recovery from uncomplicated orthopaedic surgery
• Arthritis and age-related conditions
• Weight management and general conditioning

Based on your dog’s individual needs, we design a personalised rehabilitation plan that may include home exercise programs, hydrotherapy, laser therapy, and use of the Accel mat.

We also offer Physiotherapist Initial Assessments, led by a qualified veterinary physiotherapist, for more complex or medically guided cases requiring advanced clinical insight.

📞 To discuss which assessment best suits your dog’s needs or to book your initial session, get in touch with us today.
