Sarcopenia- Let’s Talk About It 💪
I attended a conference on sarcopenia this weekend, and it was a big reminder of how important muscle strength is as we age. I’ll be keeping an eye out for early signs in the clinic to help support you better.
What is Sarcopenia?
It’s the age-related loss of muscle strength and muscle mass. It can make daily tasks harder, like getting out of a chair, carrying groceries, or climbing stairs.
How do you know if you may have it?
✅ Weak grip strength
✅ Slower walking speed
✅ Loss of muscle mass
What helps treat or prevent it?
🏋️ Strength training 2-3 times a week
🥩 Protein with each meal (eggs, fish, beans, lean meats)
🚶♂️ Move daily and avoid long periods of sitting
☀️ Vitamin D if needed
The good news? Sarcopenia isn’t “just ageing”. With the right exercise and nutrition, you can stay strong, active, independent at any age! 💚
