Would you know what to do if someone’s heart stopped?

Each year, around 30,000 Australians experience a cardiac arrest outside of hospital, and only 1 in 10 survive.

🚑 Early CPR and access to an AED can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

On Restart a Heart Day, we’re calling on all Queenslanders to be ready to save a life.

👉 Learn CPR.

⚡ Today is Restart a Heart Day! ⚡

Every year, around 30,000 Australians suffer a sudden cardiac arrest outside of a hospital. Tragically, only 1 in 10 survive, but with your help, that can change.

✅ Immediate bystander action
✅ Good quality CPR
✅ Easy access to an AED

These three things can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival, and boost survival rates up to 70%.

That's why raising awareness and increasing access to lifesaving equipment is so important.

This year, St John Queensland is proud to support this mission by presenting a lifesaving AED to the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre (HBNC), generously donated by a caring member of the local Widebay community. 🙌

By equipping local community organisations with access to these lifesaving devices, we can build safer, stronger communities across Queensland.

🌟 Get Disaster Ready: Bushfire Season is Coming🌟

As bushfire season approaches, it’s time to prepare. Starting with knowing how to treat burns.

What to do:
🔥 Follow DRSABCD.
🔥 If the burn is severe or if it involves the airway, call Triple Zero (000).
🔥 As soon as possible, hold the burnt area under cool running water for 20 minutes.
🔥 Remove any clothing and jewellery from the burnt area, unless they are stuck to the burn.
🔥 Cover the burn with a light, loose nonstick dressing, preferably clean, dry, non-fluffy material (e.g. plastic cling film).
🔥 Continue to check the patient for shock and treat if necessary.

🌟 Queensland Mental Health Week 🌟

St John had the pleasure of attending the Queensland Mental Health Week Breakfast hosted by Queensland Mental Health Ambassador and Commonwealth gold medallist Hayley Lewis 🥇

🧠 The event tackled key topics around psychosocial hazards, mental health, and how we can build mentally healthy work environments.

At St John QLD, we’re committed to supporting mentally healthy communities, not just during Mental Health Week, but every day. Our Mental Health First Aid training empowers individuals to recognise the signs of mental health challenges and respond with confidence and care.

💚 Because just like physical first aid, knowing how to respond in a mental health crisis can save lives.

🌟 The 2025 Ageing Australia National Conference was a BLAST 🌟

We had the pleasure of attending the Ageing Australian National Conference, an event that brought together Australia’s most innovative thinkers and doers within the age care sector.

The panels, workshops and discussions on sustainability, independence, inclusion and dignity provided insight and sparked meaningful conversations about how St John Queensland can collectively build a future that better supports and celebrates ageing in Australia.

❤️ Thanks to Ageing Australia for hosting such a fantastic event and special thanks to all the presenters, panellists and workshop organisers.
