So most recently when treating a valued client with our Lymphatic Face + Abdominal Detox Massage, she spent a lot of time apologising for her ‘chatty’ stomach!
No need to feel embarrassed or apologise, this is the desired result we are working towards 😁
Massage triggers your Parasympathetic nervous system, AKA the system in charge of rest and digestion.
When you're in fight or flight mode, your body doesn't care about digesting anything.
The parasympathetic nervous system kicks in when we are in a relaxed state. The ‘Feel good hormone’ Oxytocin is released which influences the rest and digest mechanism in the nervous system. It is said to stimulate various digestive hormones and gastric juices.
When you're relaxed, your digestive system starts to really break down the food that you've ingested, and obviously, depending on what you've eaten, sometimes you also have movement through your digestive track and your intestine.
Our ‘Detox’ treatment focus’s on the abdomen to intentionally get things moving and relieves issues such as bloating, fluid retention, constipation/IBS, is helpful pre/post and during your period and so much more.
When your stomach starts rumbling, it means the autonomic nervous system is responding the way we want it to.
Add to this the MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) Modality as the style of treatment we do - It decreases facial puffiness, boosts the immune system, smooths cellulite and soothes sore muscles. Lymphatic drainage massage helps deliver cellular waste to the lymph nodes. Drainage is essential because the lymphatic system lacks a pump of its own to transport lymph through the body and must rely on movement and massage to flush the fluid. Blocked lymphatic systems contribute to acne, constipation and even cellulite.
This type of massage is also known to reduce swelling, heal acne, relieve fatigue, and help the body detox.
So next time you go for a massage, don’t be annoyed by your ‘grumbling tummy’! Keep relaxing and enjoy it and book a few more regular massage sessions as your body is telling you it needs it!
